Houk!
I've been preparing to another episode of my radio show called "Trzęsienie ziemi" (ang. "Earthquake") in which I take one hour to show people dubstep tracks with some radio-blabbering-and-stuff between them ;]
I've decided to make some episodes about one specific subject. The latest one is just as described in title of this thread.
So I'm looking for producers who made tracks in other musical genres before they've started to make dubstep.
No matter if they are from underground or mainstream, or now they make dubstep or brostep.
My list so far:
Tech Itch, Chase & Status, Nero, Kryptic Minds, Black Sun Empire, Breakage, Tom Encore/Fizyk, Current Value/Dean Rondell/Machine Code, Balkansky/Cooh, Spor/Feed Me,Vsnares/Venetian Snares, Calibre, June Miller, Phace, Misanthrop,Aaron Spectre/Drumcorps, Evol Intent, N-FETT, PZG, Switch Technique/Kompot, Eprom (polish dj/turntablist), Infected Mushroom, DJ Fresh, Kid606, Tipper
Did I miss someone? Please fill the list with yours picks.
I've tried to search for similar topic here, but with no luck. So if anyone can point me to thread(s?) that answers to my question, It'll be fine.
& if ya wanna check previous episodes, you can check it here: mixcloud.com/basebox
(note: all blabbering is polish-speaking )
Cheers

This is Flux Pavilion going through some of his music stages.... Josh Extravaganza = his 1 man band(I'm 80% sure) before he did electronic music. And he's also the one in the music video.

if you're producing dubstep, you're a dubstep producer.

yeah, tech itch has been doing dubstep for a few years now. pretty good stuff too.
the only dubstep-ish tunes vsnares did, as far as I know, are those 2 black sabbath remixes under the "snares" alias.
goth-trad, martyn, data, cardopusher, atki2
octance & dlr have a tune on black box, and they're in cymatic with ruckspin & quantum soul
miles/mlz and andy stott made dubstep under the aliases millie & andrea
sbtrkt (aka aaron jerome)
mark pritchard from africa hitech
jakes, lx one and sp:mc were/still are dnb mcs, if that counts

Yo guys!
Thanks for yours picks. Some new names here, some of them I don't expect to see here! Glad you've helped me!
But - for some of names listed below - I've got question:
Flux Pavilion, The Bug, goth-trad, cardopusher, atki2, ruckspin & quantum soul, miles/mlz, sbtrkt (aka aaron jerome), mark pritchard from africa hitech, eskmo, cardopusher
Were these producers recognizable somehow in their genres that they had made before they started with dubstep (under the same or another alias)? I mean - on EDM scene? Did thier previous works gather some nice publicity?
TBH, I've only known them because of dubstep tracks. I know that answer for my question can be googled (Which is what I'll do, believe me! ;] ) but I'd like to know it from you.
Before dubstep I was mainly into dnb scene, but not only there - I listen many genres of music, so my list of artists is mostly based on guys that I recognize from thier previous works.
So: Did f.e. Goth-Trad have some success on EDM scene before he's started producing dubstep? Under this or other nick?
& what about others?
Of course - low popularity of artists before dubstep doesn't mean that I won't put them in my show ;]
That's only for my curiosity! :]
And I don't expect that Flux did some rock stuff before. Made me like WHOA! ;]
Thanks again... really appreciated!!! ...still, don't hesitate to type some new names (if any ;] ).

Mark Pritchard has made some big relevant stuff in the past with his mate Tom, ie Global Communication and Reload.. especially the first one debut is one of the most important electronic records ever, now they are both pretty average considerly their quality 90s output
Cardopusher was a very rated producer in the breakcore wave 2002 2003 circa (together with vsnares, mochipet, enduser, ovs, shitmat, duranduranduran...)
the bug is a don, made many quality and well received music with justin broadrick (mainly on matador records), exploring tons of genres (mainly freejazz, noise, dub, experimental hip hop, grindcore, industrial, experimental), as well some journalism ..i would say he is more known for his techno animal / god output than the bug or kms
miles made basic channel influenced music
eskmo some low profile idm music

My first release was dubstep - but before that I was making digi dub, dub, funk, drum and bass, none of which got released as I was still developing my craft.
I cut my vinyl teeth with dubstep so to speak, and now have my first dnb vinyl out, so I'm the anti-thesis of what you're asking about really.

Whoa again! That's nice set of good news
The Bug is into Techno Animal? I know that project a little (listen alot to "Brotherhood of the bomb" before), heavy electonic rap stuff. But didn't expect that he's the half behind that sound. Cool!
@Quantum Soul:
thanks for clarifying that. Guess I should remove you from the list. ;D
Also, glad to know about your dnb release! That's something to fill news section on our music portal for polish dnb heads, just to let them know ;]
You've made some tracks with Ruckspin - how about him & his stuff before dubstep? Know sth about that?
Thanks again to all of you!!!

Kill The Noise used to make dnb under the name Ewun. Was quite a while ago, though.
EDIT: Another obvious one being Pendulum turning into Knife Party.
