strings would do wonders for this track imo.

Cool - What kind of strings are you suggesting? plucked?

not plucked, it will screw with your elements that you've put delay on. if you aren't all that comfortable with writing string arrangements even a simple drone will add a lot more to your tune, really fill it out a bit.

Some great percussion and melodic elements, and that's a great vocal - the entire thing reminds me a bit of shackleton. However, the entire thing feels a little bit anti-climactic after a suspenseful intro like that - I was expecting something a little more dramatic

Okay, I'll have a little fiddle about with some strings (see what I did there? sorry) and see if I can't add something complimentary.
And as for anti-climatic. I can absolutely see where you're coming from, I seem to get that a fair bit with my tracks so definitely something I need to work on.
Anywho, thanks a lot for the feedback guys - this is the inspiration I need - cheers.

You know what, after listening to it again, I actually take back what I said about it being anti-climactic - I really like it how it is - that percussion is sick. But I think the whole piece is being covered a bit by the bass, you should turn the bass down

lol the bass is fine (as a general criticism of tracks posted in this forum: the bass is far too weak most of the time), you need to fill up some more of the spectrum though, hence my suggestion of strings/pads/long droney noises/whatever.

I still took it on board though mate. Decided to give the snare a little bit of a volume boost, so it hits a tiny bit harder without needing to fiddling about with the arrangement too much as I was quite happy with that.
I wasn't sure about the rest of the perc at first so good to hear it sounds alright! cheers

Gotya - been trying out a few different pads and strings but struggling to make anything sound particularly good. Will have to keep messing with it a bit i think.
Cheers for the feedback - genuinely helpful stuff

Very minimal style of beats building into a nice bassy, well crafted beat.
I like the small vocal chop and the guitar like chord reverb.
I'm always wanting a backing pad of some sort.
The guitar rhythm and vocal is almost like a kwela track.
May I ask what it is in it's unprocessed state?
Nice work, right up my street.
Take a listen to Warlord or Nobantu, I'm on the same sort of vibe.
Keep it up. It's very intelligent music.

Ah, cheers bud, kind words.
Yeah no problem - the original track is 'Amassakoul 'N'Tenere' by the band Tinariwen
I'll check out those two tracks on my lunchbreak - no streaming media in in the office

Thanks for the sample reference.
No worries if you don't checkout my tunes.

Well I did; can't say nobantu is really my thing, but warlord was hefty as fuck.

Posted up the 'finished' version. Although now I'm second guessing myself as to whether the bass is too heavy. Sounds fine on some speakers and then really muddy on others.
