R8 Records Update

R8 Records is now firmly established and the rest of 2007 is mapped out. Last weeks flooding left us unperturbed despite having to perform at a few ‘silty’ raves!
Here’s the news, check the end for free downloads and a competition.

Events
Bass Bar continues every Thursday @ DQ Bar, Sheffield. Residents include all the R8 DJs (Rogue State, Alex Deadman & Hoodsey) as well as the full Junglist Alliance posse. August 16th will be a special event to mark the release of R8-001 with Daddy Freddy, Dubcentral, Sequoia and Junglist Alliance joining the R8 crew.
Bass Bar is also expanding to north London in September. The events will be held in conjunction with Westminster University at their Student Union in Harrow. The first date on Sat 22nd September will feature Nicky Blackmarket, the R8 Records crew and the Junglist Alliance. This event will also mark the release of R8-002.

On Sat August 11th the mighty ‘Best of British’ event is ressurected at the Canvas club (aka Bagleys) in London. The event features 4 rooms of the finest underground music in the UK including dubstep from Alex Deadman, Rogue State & Hoodsey. This fantastic event will also be the London release party for R8-001.

On top of all this the lads are now all residents at Dubcentral. A monthly dub, reggae, jungle and dubstep night held in Club Shhhh and The Everyone Centre, Sheffield.

Releases

R8-001 - ‘Root of all Evil’ EP by Rogue State is available in the shops on August 13th and marks the first vinyl release for R8. The EP has 3 very distinct tracks, proving Rogue’s versatility as a producer. ‘Root Of All Evil’ is a rootsy number featuring the dancehall legend Lone Ranger. On the flip side ‘Big Up From Sheff’ is a raspy, warbling stormer, paying homage to its Sheffield origin, and ‘Soul Music’ is a chilled, yet dancefloor friendly fusion of Detroit style deep house and dubstep.

The second vinyl also produced by Rogue State (R8-002), will be out around mid September. The a-side is ‘Very Dangerous’ featuring record braking (world fastest rapper) veteran Daddy Freddy, this track is a quirky, but still very dark. On t’other side is ‘Wiked ‘N’ Bad’, a grimey one with a unique vocal hook provided by 14 year old Sheffield MC, Road Runner. Also on the second side is ‘Bouncestep’. Perhaps Rogue’s daftest tune to date which compels ravers to dance like chickens, nuff said.

On the digital front, we now have 10 tracks available spread over 4 releases. The newest additions are the forthcoming vinyl release (Root of all Evil EP) and ‘Big Bwaddy / Subterranean / Soaring Eagle’ from Rogue State. All digital releases can be found at boomkat.com and addictech.com.

For the future watch out for the groundbreaking ‘Nichestep’. This track fuses dubstep and grime styles with the bassline house so prevalent in Sheffield’s 7 hills. Already causing a stir with the various crews in Sheff and featuring a cameo appearance from Daddy Freddy and his daughter Jaisha, this could well be release number 3.
