Strings!

Hey guys, I've been making electronic music for a couple years now and have always wanted to implement strings. However, I have never been able to find a good plugin or create a good, believable sound. The sounds I am trying to create are similar to the strings in these songs:

youtu.be/79NkaHZmrrs

(hits in the verses)

youtu.be/HPKdUFzguoA

(percussive strings in the chorus)

youtu.be/0xDf-_8KvGM

(all, very last chorus especially)

If anyone could direct me to a plugin or technique that works for these kinds of strings it would be greatly appreciated!

Reason has some good string patches in the samplers, but that's really all I can think of. Whenever I want strings I use a sampler patch I made of my guitar being played with a bow, it can get some really deep spacey cello sounds or a pretty convincing violin, as well as the signature Sigur Ros bowed guitar sound.

Sound fonts or a good orchestral sample pack (EastWest is good, but prohibitively pricey). Honestly...sample a string quartet or something. There have got to be tons of these kinds of records and CDs at second hand shops. If you can get a nice pluck or strum or whatever and figure the key you are set.

Thank you so much. Downloaded this and mapped it to midi, working on getting it to sound good. It's tough with all the different lengths of the samples.

I'm also playing around with the Kontakt factory strings, and so far I like them more. I wish there were deeper editing options though.

Rob Swire as well. For good reason too, nothing else sounds as good plain and simple.
