Ok. This has had me strapped to my chair for the last week and it's confusing. It's like pitch manipulation.
Here are 2 songs that show this "Vocal Manipulation" the best.
The main "look I found her... Redcoat" verse and 1:18, and 2:04
And for this one the vocals @ 0:00 and 2:09/2:10
So confusing
Anyone know? Thank you

Well... you wanna take the pitch... and manipulate it.
It's really that simple.

Surely using Melodyne.
But it can be done with chopping and effects. Check out Gsnap and his others http://www.gvst.co.uk/gsnap.htm

Never used Newtone, but I think it's more of an Auto-Tune type clone. Melodyne is a bit different and more in depth/advanced than that but you can definitely use something like that to get you on the right track. Also it's sometimes about frequency shifting, not pitch shifting. They are similar but frequency shifting doesn't preserve harmonics. Gets some weird results.

I just pitch it down in a sampler. For the most part that will be the case.

Yeah you dont need anything crazy like Melodyne, just use the transpose wheel (or your daw's equivalent)

in ableton live you can use the warp featured on piece of audio to transpose it. Not quite sure how to have a smooth buildup other than +1 per clip or -1 per clip. Maybe some bend effects that keep the pitch growth more dull than sudden transposes

Use cents instead of changing in semitones.
James Blake's vocal effect?

I'm trying to figure out how he does that really high pitched, almost female sounding voice. I know it's more that just pitching a clip way the fuck up, but I'm stumped. One quick example I found was about 52 seconds into "Why Don't You Call Me," but if you listen to Blake I'm sure you've heard this a lot, he does it in a few different tracks.

chop the vocal sample at each syllable. spread each syllable across and octave and play away

logic's pitch manipulator sucks ass, unless you want it to sound really lo fi, in which case it sounds cool.
