Hi,

Im curious if anyone is using ITB Console Emulation like Satson, VCC, Airwindows etc.. with outboard summing gear such as the Thermionic Fat Bustard which I currently use with Logic Pro 9.

sorry to hijack the thread, but i've got a couple of questions for you.

1. can you hear a noticeably improved sound from running your tunes through the bustard, rather than say bouncing out of logic in 44.1 khz/24 bit?

2. do you actually use some sort of hardware to record the bustard's output (dat for example), or do you just route it straight back into logic, then save that audio file?

i've always considered finding an alternative way to bounce out of logic...mainly because i think that there's definitely some issue/loss of quality with logics internal bounce, along with some of my bounces having automation glitches that don't happen during play back. i've also seen people like hive and dom and roland complaining about the exact same thing. it's one of the reasons i've been trying to move off of it for a while now. hive was even suggesting to me to send every channel in the mix to a bus (rather than the master channel), then recording that bus on an audio channel, as he's had better results from that sometimes.

i was using a trident s100 for a few years to sum mixes, add eq, outboard compression, etc. it was great! until you had to recall a mix. then it was a nightmare.

eventually started just summing stuff flat, and then eventually started printing whatever hware processing i was doing-- don't sum at all these days.

i use airwindows channel often to add some flavor to things that were really plainly recorded; it's a nice simple tool for sure.

i can't really think of a time where summing really saved a mix; it can make things sound better, sure, but not a ton better IMO. more work at the track and bus level pays more dividends.
