i made a similar post about los angeles a year ago. we now have roughly 2-3 parties each week to chose from so make it happen

i dont spin, matter of fact there arent even any DJs in Miami that do spin dubstep (a few in orlando)
plus there isnt even a scene here

well if there's no scene I guess there's no dubstep in miami now is there... and if ten people would show up for UK acts then ten people would show up for your own dubstep night - now either you accept that you can't make a scene materialize itself in a city or lower your standards for what you think a exceptable miami dubstep night would entail... it at gonna be DMZ or Dubwar now is it?

i was just thinking the other day if there was anything going on in FL.

because it would make sense to me with the history of bass music there that dubstep would fit right in....

but i guess not : (

good reason to start spinning then innit? just start playing at other music genre parties and stuff... you'd be surprised how many ppl come up and end ask about what that music was and so on usually in a very positive key (although russian rap heads don't seem to appreciate dubstep too much ) so that definitely helps to spread the word a bit

my view on tings:

i live in a city (indianapolis, IN) where it's difficult to get many people out for anything electronic, but we still bust our asses and do it anyway. if 10 people show up, that's 10 more people than me to listen to the music. for almost a year, i was the ONLY person playing dubstep in my city. now there are 3. and we still keep going.

miami is a larger city, with MANY MANY more nightlife possibilities than indiana. if i can do it, you can do it. no excuses, really.

i know someone has already tried to bring skream (although i think that didn't work out), and i have some techno peeps down there who i have introduced to dubstep. there's allies, you just gotta find them and get creative. find some peeps into miami bass, bring in some dubstep, mix things up...

It's a lot of work but I managed to get a little scene started in Pittsburgh. Had 50 people show up to the first event and double that many that had all types of excuses why they didn't go :-/

I expect around 75 at the next one. If I can do it here you can do it just about anywhere but it isn't just a simple matter of booking dj's and handing out flyers. I had to talk to people individually and educate with every gig I get. Hand out mixes. Whatever.

I'm the only one in the city that spins it full time. It's def rough making a lineup with next to no budget but I am managing somehow.

being in another town without a huge dubstep scene, i find my biggest delimma is finding someone to spin records with on a weekday.

There is Dubstep in Miami, albeit limited to a few nights.

Laundry Bar on South Beach and Soho just north of Downtown play Dubstep regularly.

I'd expect that there will finally be enough interest to have Dubstep rooms for WMC in 08. See you there!

those are drum and bass nights and NOBODY is there for dubstep
when that is played you have to bribe people to stay
you have to trick people into listening to dubstep and then they get pissed
cause theres no DnB and thats what they came for

This thread is a completely pointless lamentation of your city's musical tastes - you can't force people to like the shit fam... wait a few years - american's taste in electronic/dance/urban music is usually years behind what might be hot elsewhere... I mean really - two years ago I was at a Christmas party in Buffalo and at midnight a dj came on and played jungle and people went balls out mad like it was '96 or something... and this was 8-10 years well after the peak of that music... not many people have been exposed to the music period and you really have to do your research to be acquainted with the music in any way - again I reiterate, how can you expect a scene to materialize???? This is your opportunity to get some crates together and be on the ground floor of spinning dubstep in your city - or you can just bitch and whine and expect someone to do it for you...

plus the scene is such that it revolves around djs and producers and sound system crews and folks involved with the creation of music in general - the dubstep scene is not passive spectatorism - the scene is thriving in the UK because the shit started as a group of producers pushing their own material at the nights they booked - they didnt buy a grip of records from some other part of the world and expect the community to come and dig the shit they played... folks were there to hear their shit on a big system or their friends shit on a big system - and the nights weren't huge affairs to begin with, what were there like 30 people at those nights??? I mean maybe this is a glossy historical generalization but thats the way a scene functions in my eyes...

get a record player, blow 500$ on records with your credit card, rent a PA, throw a fucking house party and dispense weed brownies at the door - watch a scene materialize in front of your eyes

Can we expect a flourishing scene in Daejeon, South Korea then?

i understand your point, makes alot of sense to me
i been hooked with this music since i was in LA and made it to a dubstep party with Caspa and Breakage and the vibe was really dope
i would love to start something like that here, only thing is im not a promoter or deejay, i dont have any records or produce, im an animator and 3d artist filmmaker and im super super busy with my career, i dont sleep as it is. this music is already influencing my art, there is a movie in the works right now about ninja clans in miami that will feature all dubstep soundtrack, so i am making my contribution in my own way. im not lazy!! but as far as booking a venue and talent and promoting and materilizing a dubstep sound from this area theres no way
