Yeah: the OP-1 looks to be some seriously badass kit. I love the design, and the fact that it's made so well... don't love the price but hey, it's boutique electronics.

Imagine taking all of your gear - old CV control stuff, your vintage Roland 606, a few MIDI controlled devices - and controlling them all from one source?! My god... why has it taken this long for someone to come up with?

so what's the difference between this breadboard looking thing and say an arduino? I only ask because I used one for a project in my rather pretentious 'electronic sculpture' class last semester. Basically is there anything that your new thing can do that arduino can't?

edit: looks like that thing is just made specifically for audio/midi and would streamline working with them compared to an arduino.

Exactly: with an arduino you'd still have to be taking meter readings and doing current/resistance pairings and all that - this streamlines that whole process to make it a little more plug & play, although there's probably still some tinkering involved.

2 friends of mine just bought op1's while on tour. shit is insane and more than lives up to the hype!

my friend has an op-1. I fucking love the thing but yeah the thin is a niche item with a boutique price. I'd fucking love one because it's so intuitive to use, built like a tank (apart from the end rotary knobs which get cracked or some shit) and it's fucking gorgeous.

atm I can't justify spending the money on it tho.

I didn't think it was all that expensive, for what it is, referring to the op-1.

I guess for me the main issue is that the user interface is simply amazing, but the device itself doesn't really sound that amazing (for the price anyway...) to my ears, and for my particular tastes of course. I've messed around with the blofeld and the tetra a lot and I was much more enamoured by the sounds I could coax out of those two machines. of course the OP-1 is much more than a synth, and part of the reason I suspect anyone would buy it for would be for the workflow it offers (again amazing).

honestly as overpriced as I personally find the thing (wanted to purchase one last xmas) I'm relooking at the pricepoint now and am seriously considering grabbing one at the end of the summer (finally got a job and need some hardware to work with...), it's just that intuitive and fun to work with. that's why I still use my sp-404 to make quick tracks sometimes. the machine is just a pleasure to work with.

Let me be baphomet for a sec, that op-1 would be a Sick companion to the 404.

Friend is getting one soon probably. I'd like to mess with it, but I wasn't interested from the NAMM video that I remember. Going to have to check it out more because he won't shut up about it haha.
