Kindred Spirit - U.S.S.R (Original Mix) *** Ukrainian/UK

Hi there.
I've been working on this track for the best part of the last 3 weeks. It's an 100bpm piece, featuring a culmination of Ukrainian strings and twisted dubstep basslines. I suppose the genre for this would have to be Glitch-Hop/Dubstep, although I'm not one to get overtly anal about genres.
Soundcloud
As I haven't had the chance to play this to anyone as of yet, I'd love some friendly feedback on it.
I'm very happy with my level of production on this track, unfortunately my laptop won't allow me to work further on it as the Logic session makes my laptop melt.. haha.
I hope you guys enjoy it.
Thanks!
- Kindred Spirit.

Thanks for the response Zill. I'm glad you liked the strings and bassline (cheers for the comments!). I take the KOAN comparison as a huge compliment so thank you kindly!

Sounds good, nice production, strings and brass sound good. I think I'd like to hear the kick and snare a touch louder, other than that a pretty decent mix.

Thanks Drastik, I've taken what you've said into account and will bounce a different version with louder kicks and snares tomorrow to see what it sounds like (Logic crashes on me whenever I try to press play on the track now, so all editing is being done in static lol). Thanks again for the feedback. ^^

only suggestion is the kick could use a touch more sub bass...Don't cut too high? Seems like there's a bit of a gap in the kick and sub when they hit together?

Thanks for the suggestion Toolman. I'll make a sub-bass trigger for when the kick comes in for that added 'oomph'. It's primarily because to fit the kick into the mix I've side-chained the sub to it (amongst other things), but I can tell that it does need tweeking so thanks for the response!

I like this, really fun to listen to. Can I ask do you know the name of the break at the start? I remember hearing it from another tune a while back.

Thank you kindly outbound! Very chuffed

- I believe the sample you're referring to is from LP's - Cure For the Itch. I felt like a 13 year old when stealing said sample, but I felt it worked really well in the track w/o being to imposing. Thanks again!

Really liking this tune. I really love your mid range bass...it sounds great! doesnt sound quite like the typical overused massive sound...is it massive? does not sound like it

Thanks Dy-nasty! You're right - my (mid-range)basslines are in fact never made in Massive! For this example, I used a mixture of Logic's native 'ES M' plug-in with some ringshifter (amongst some other very top secret plug-ins!) to achieve this sound.
I also tweek to an endless extent when processing the bass (post-bounce), so in this example the bassline was actually divided into 5x sub-mixes (varying on frequency and direction). It may seem excessive but I like to keep my mid-range grows individual.

dy-nasty - i encourage you to experiment! The more sub-mixes the better in my opinion (well, without going to extremes!) - and juiceyfewt, thank you kindly for the feedback - I hugely appreciate it and I'm glad you like the track!

Just tried to amend the sub issues that Toolman pointed out, but Logic isn't having any of it. I'm a little scared that I'll not be able to work on this track any further 'til my replacement mbp comes through
