How to automate the pitch of vocals?

Hey, I'm using FL Studio 10 and I'm entering the Zedd - Spectrum remix contest on Beatport. This is also little embarrassing because I am a more advanced user of FL Studio, but I have never really used vocals that much. I am trying to make an automation of the pitch so that the vocals gradually get higher and higher for my build up. But when I open the vocals channel settings and automate the pitch it doesn't do squat, the pitch of the vocals just stays the same. I've also tried using the pitcher plugin but it sounds just absolutely terrible. Is there any other way for me to automate the pitch of the vocals? Thanks.

chop it into itty bitty slices and use a sampler to lay out the slices that they don't timestretch, then use the pitching knob on your sampler to gradually raise the pitch of each little slice
otherwise ur pitch knob will make it play faster as you raise the pitch

try DMG pitchfunk demo, it's a brand new toy, kinda an "ableton transpose" on stereoids... next level tool for vocal manipulation and pitchshifting madness!

I was thinking more along the lines of either get a free trial or buy it and enjoy the greatness that is Ableton for the rest of your life
