Is this even possible?

I'm trying to create a 6 band frequency splitter wherein each band controls a side-chained gate on 6 different tracks.

No matter how steep I make the filters poles, theres bleed-through even on the highest frequency bands from the lowest. This was expected but I didn't expect it to be as big of a wrench in the gears as its currently being. I also tried putting high resonance band passes on each band but that only marginally improved my results. I can't tell if this is just ableton being stupid or just not possible in general.

I think I need melodyne type tech to do this properly. Or maybe just better filters(any 48dB+ vst filters)?

may i ask why?

i'm with you on the gain settings. been forced to do pro tools stuff at school and their eqs have Q up to 100. I'd just look around, maybe waves.

Try splitting with multiband dynamics, I'm not sure how steep those are but its worth a try. Ya know, just solo the lowest of the 6th bands in one of the parts of the instrument rack and so on......................

Yea that was the first thing I tried.

I believe fabfilter pro-Q can go to a Q of 48

both Audacity's EQ and ReaFIR can get a pretty high Q.

use eq 8 and just layer the filter with the same q and frequency, i believe they are 2 pole filters so you would have to have 4 layered to get 48 db per octave.

what db levels do the bands have to be at?

I was about to make a similar thread exept about reason... I was having trouble sidechaining a synth that I had 1.split the frequency and 2. Used that teqnique where you can see what frequency your sound lies in (spectrum analyzer i think). I wanted to sidechain it also but then I thought that the track didnt need sidechaining anyway but that didnt change the fact that I probably couldnt do it even if I wanted too. :(

Whatever my gates are set at. Obviously it can't be perfect, but it should be just enough so that each band isn't leaking and triggering other bands gates. This is surprisingly more difficult than I though.

The plan was to be able to control the 6 tracks via guitar. I would give each "zone" some breathing room so that
E-Ab=1
A-Db=2
etc

or even

E-Db=1
D-Bb=2
B and above=3

Neat stuff! I suppose you want this do be done in realtime?

Yea if I were to do this as a processing effect it wouldn't be that useful to me.

I did find this though:
384 dB/oct filter
http://www.savioursofsoul.de/Christian/ ... bberfilter

going to give it a go later.

384 dB/oct?!
I don't know how steep in dB/oct but the Engineers Filter by RS-MET can go up to 20th order. http://www.rs-met.com/freebies.html

I dunno if anyone mentioned this but you can run a few different peak controllers each emphasizing the particular range you want.

try engineers filter. when you filter out something with it, its not there anymore.
