"Leakers"

It seems like everyday there is somebody on my FB/twitter etc moaning about having their tracks leaked.

To me 90% of these people who are having their tracks "leaked" are people who make shit music which sounds the same as everybody elses. I personally think some of them are actually making it up for a bit of attention. The standard thing they say is "going to have to keep my tunes on lock down now". Obviously there are some bigger names who have had things leaked, I think I remember Toddla T's release on Ninja Tune was one of the bigger ones.

My question is this...........why are these people sending their music to people that they dont know/cant trust in the first place?? If your music is so precious why do you not just send it to people you know/trust?

If you're saying Compa's music is shit I disagree, especially the leaked tune. Leaks unfortunately happen in all sorts of different music circles. Just ask Jay Z.

+1
If you never trusted anyone your tune would hardly get any play time/ hype.

I wasnt talking about Compa. I own that record. I said about 90% of the people I see moaning about it are shit. I have seen a small amount of decent artists talking about leaks too.....as my comment would suggest.

If this is the case, then you have to accept that occasionally stuff will get leaked. You cant pass your tunes to loads of people and get loads of plays and not expect the occasional leak. You either have a tight knit community of people you trust to play your tunes and not be ''leaked'', or you have pass it out to everyone and expect the odd leak.

A leak is possibly one of the best things that can happen to a producer - giving away a free track without devaluing the track + making it seem somewhat exclusive....

I call shenanigans!

OR do what i do and make unlisten-able music...

OR instead of watermark just have that public enemy sample "BASS" every 13 seconds over every track except when released on vinyl.

From my understanding, some rap artists in the States leak the tracks themselves!

It's obviously disrespectful and insulting but alot of DJ's and listeners couldn't give a fuck these days anyway due to download culture, power and popularity can go to peoples head too.
Sucks for people like me who would never even think about doing that.... horses for courses.

There is the darker side to leaking where its by producers trying to get ahead and possibly leak tunes with an ulterior motive to assist themselves climbing over the leakee's dead body

You'd be surprised who leaks tunes
