A local store has this HP DV7 on sale for $799. I'm not stoked on the Beats Audio but I can just buy a USB interface and be dialed in right?
The performance specs seem to be good and the price is outstanding. Any other things I should consider? Ableton and FL will be running on it.

I have the hp dv6 and its great so far. Ya the beats is a complete ripoff, so I am using the presonus adiobox usb interface and i'm running ableton. Everything works great for me so I would recommend it to you.

If you're looking for audio quality Focusrite's Scarlett 2i2 has the best converters on the market and I just got mine for $120 pricematched at GC. Probably the best converters and preamps under 300. 24 bit 96 khz.

btw I picked up the Akai MPK Mini since everyone here said they are in love with it, I don't know if I got a bad one or what but it seems like an overall poorly designed controller. The knobs feel like they could fall off at any second. I highly recommend the Korg NanoKontrol2 as it has a MUCH more solid build, transport controls, and you can map all the faders/knobs to any midi parameters you want. I'll be taking this junky Akai MPK Mini back tomorrow and probably get a Korg microkey 37. Korg makes solid shit.

Also the beats audio is just some cheap EQ gimmick that boosts the bass up. Get some Sennheiser 280 HD Pro's they are the flattest you can get for $80-100, assuming your mobile production rig is like mine. Oh yeah the NanoKontrol2 has a mixer mode too so you can use it as an 8 track mixer after you're done with your tracks. Glad I researched it myself, I can help you get the transport controls and midi messages working in FL message me, I couldn't find much info on the internet so I figured it out myself. Everyone said it couldn't be done.

I have Audio Technica ATH-M50s headphones but I use my KRK 2nd gen RP6s when I'm home. I have an Oxygen 25 for a contoller

I bought it this morning and got the XBOX 360 (only 4GB though) for free too. Great deal for $799 I have already installed Ableton and FL 10 but I haven't tried them yet because I'm at work.

and upgraded the ram to 8gb, gonna prolly toss a ssd in it in the future, but more than enough for me and in total cost me less than $500
