Title gets us started,
My goal is to produce music as a career, and I would love it if someone could point me in the right direction so I can get started and bang out some tunes!
I already have a few songs out, not too special, just a start if you want to take a listen they are all on this channel -
http://www.youtube.com/user/TehOffishulAntidote
Check those out if you'd like!
Anyways, on to the main point of my inquiry here, as you already know I have songs out, but the sounds were mostly from vengeance pack, but the bass in Prepare is mine. As well as the bass in Deep Space, but the problem I'm having is I can't seem to shape the sound I want. What happens is I have a sound in mind, but I always end up with something completely different, but I go ahead and use it anyways because its not too bad

Anyways I've been trying to make the bass from this song(the formant one, it sounds kind if wet? hard to describe) -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEkVh5cwnT8 , now keep in mind I don't want to copy it EXACTLY, I just want to know how its made, so I can then change it to my liking after, I do NOT want to copy anyone.
So if anyone could tell me how that is made/ what is made with/ any help at all, that would be AWESOME!
BUT, you don't have to help at all, maybe you're here because you need help also and if so, I hope you find what you're looking for!
As always, Thanks and good luck and have a nice day!

Start looking first how you want a career from music because unless you drop something spectacular or innovate a certain sound then you are not going to gain a career through making tunes alone.
I can't really help with that type of sound design because it isn't something i go for.It was more than likely made using massive/fm8 or any of the other popular synths.
Just read the forum mate and you should get enough info.
Also for the formant sounds there is loads of vids on youtube for certain synths and certain ways of getting the sound you are after.Sorry for derailing couldn't resist!!
Goodluck

probably because these formant basses have been asked about for months and the stuff is all over youtube.
edit: you don't need to make something innovative to have a career in music, pop all sounds the same, brostep as well, even my beloved 'dungeon' is becoming all too similar. just make decent tunes and get them into the hands of the right people

Alright now that is helpful! I plan on DJing and playing shows, I'm sure you can make a career out of that. I have been reading around and this forum is by far the most help I've found. When it comes to formant sounds on youtube, they pretty much all just use modern talking, and that's not something I'm looking for.

I'm looking for more of a subtle formant sound, one that apply to already existing non formant bass, modern talking is just too common and I don't really want that.

To make huge amounts of money i would of thought it would need to be up there as pretty innovative right?
haven't there been discussions in the past about there not being a lot of money in making edm?
I will use prodigy as an example, tunes getting in the charts but not really being proper pop. They were pretty innovative with their sound in the beginning and still shift shit loads of albums.

you don't have to be innovative to make a lot of money either. look at the biggest festival house/tranc names avicii, deadmau5, kaskade, guetta, armin van buuren etc etc none of that piano driven progressive house/trance stuff was even remotely close to innovative and they're at the top of the charts as far as money goes within EDM.
