Hmmm. Never thought of that. Off to the store I go.
Also, I write melodies in my head that I can't replicate at the real thing so I just forget about them. I basically produce in my head all day with ideas and melodies that won't come down on to the software. Should I take piano lessons?

Personnaly , when I got a melody that I dont want to forget in my head, I take out my cellphone and I record the sound by humming the melody with my mouth. When later I get on FL Studio, I take out my phone and listen to it again, it worked pretty much all the time.
(By the way if your in a public place (Like a restaurant), try to find a place where there's fewer people, unless you want to look like a retard that doing weird sound looking at his cellphone (Y).)

Most people look dumb on their phones anyway, tilting it around playing racing games etc.
You can also just load the audio into something like recycle and slice it up and export to MIDI. Obviously won't be perfect notes especially if there's noise, but it's quicker to work with.
It's probably the most useful feature of smartphones next to communication.

With noise I just use Edison to get rid of it.

I mean background noise, like people talking, dishes crashing in a restaurant etc. To transcribe audio to MIDI it has to be pretty clear.

Thank you everybody. I'm taking notes as we speak on a Moleskin notebook and watching ill.gates as a bonus.

Lose your ideas, it doesn't matter. Good ideas take a half second to come up with. They're literally the most abundant resource in the universe.

We must harvest this resource before the enemy can exploit our weakness!

have to agree with Atilla. losing your ideas and not caring is telling your brain that you can do it whenever you want. the important thing is that you came up with it in the first place. humming at the bus stop is like band practice for lonely dance music producers.

yeah, I kind of agree, like i get ideas and then like try to hum them and shit, but never use them, ive tried, and i always think its shit and end up scrapping it anyway, i always find it better to just sit and jam out with what you got until you find something you like.

Type your ideas into a text message, then save it as a draft. Then put them into a .txt file on your computer when you get home. That's what I do. I used to use a lot of sticky notes or use the sticky notes app that came with my laptop, but just having a .txt file with all that stuff is much easier.

Get a decent production app for your phone. If you have an iPhone I heartily recommend Nanostudio... it's perfect for jotting down quick beats and melodies and you can send audio, MIDI, or the whole file with bundled samples - they have free desktop apps for Mac and Windows too.
But all you really need is a half-assed MIDI editor to pull this off...

Well this seems like the perfect product for you! Rather impractical and probably not what your looking for but it's interesting.
