Midi Devices not being recognized over USB in Ableton

Hey,
So I am in need of some help with troubleshooting my Midi equipment. If this is an inappropriate place to discuss such things, I'm sorry, I'll move.
Anyway.

I have been wrestling with a really depressing issue lately. I am trying to run my APC40 and MPK49 over USB on my ASUS G74-SX "Republic of Gamers" laptop.
There is no midi information of any form over usb, but I am able to get midi from the MPK when I have my Lexicon Ionic u42s interface hooked up (which works) and a standard MIDI cable running from the MPK out to the Lexicon in. Ableton lets me play midi tracks fine and dandy that way. There's no midi out on the APC so I am still forced to solve this problem. Both of these devices work perfectly on multiple friends computers, both PC and Mac.

The MPK is getting usb power, the (APC is external power). I am not quite sure whether WINDOWS is aware of these devices (I do know that windows knows OF my hardware because I have found my drivers for these guys in the devices menu in the control panel and the drivers are up to date). I can't quite figure out if windows is aware of the device when I plug it in, because I can't find anything new that pops up or says MPK in the devices list when I plug it in. Does anyone know if they go by another hardware name?

I know for a fact though that Ableton is unaware of these devices alltogether. The MPK can never give a midi input signal (over usb) and the APC is never able to be loaded as a control surface even though everything in the prefrences menu is configured properly. I am fairly certain the problem is not Ableton's fault, because I got a FL Studio demo and tried to hook everything up and I got the same issues.

The problem may be at the hardware level, in which case I am finished with this computer and its going back to best buy where I have black tie service and can get a replacement once it reaches the qualifing number of hardware repairs. I suppose my question is what can help me locate this problem and solve it within windows or the BIOS? That has to be it, there must be some sort of permission that the USB devices are being denied and thus not being able to speak to ableton. All I really need is a few leads, diagnostics, testing programs or updates or I dunno, I'm unaware of the things I need at this point because I have been :u: so that's what I am asking.

If anyone has any helpul hints of any kind please let me know, I will give it a shot.

Thanks so much,
Colin

Delete system32

or try using them not with a DAW but with the standalone .exe version of one of your vsts.

Have you updated Windows?
Does the usb work otherwise?

Yeah the USB works for most other stuff, not the controllers though. But thats a pretty good idea actually. I have a version of windows from the UNC Student IT center. That may be it, the ASUS machine may need its original OS back. Duh, I'll try it. No dice with the standalone vsts but I'll try ditching that sys32
