ASIO4ALL Driver and 'multitasking'

Hey guys!
I've been playing around with a DAW and am using ASIO4ALL as my driver. The issue that comes up is when I switch between a video (tutorial or youtube) or other audio and the DAW, I can only hear sound for the DAW. I know the DAW is currently using the soundcard, but is there any way to set it up so this can switch? I've been using a netbook for a video and my desktop for doing things in my DAW and it's rather comical.
Thanks for any help!

ASIO4ALL isn't really a driver so much as a way of tricking your computer. I take it you have your DirectX soundcard selected in ASIO4ALL? See if the ASIO4ALL shows up in your playback devices by right clicking on your volume icon. Set to default if you can.

From what i was told it was the DAW that did this,, i use cubase and a mate told me that in the options/preferances there was a setting that stoped the audio hijacking... <_< i never looked into it any further lol and just deal with it lol......

It would be good to know how to get the ASIO for all signal to go thru my HDMI out so I can use Reason on my TV/surround sound. Seems it only plays thru the audio jack. Just figured thats the way it is.

Open the ASIO board thing, uncheck the active one and check the unactive one, then try it on your TV/Surround setup. If you know what I mean

What DAW? The option is different in them all. You should look for something like 'release audio driver in background'. In Ableton Live, the option is available when you click the CPU meter. In FL the option is in the audio options up top. In Cubase, it's in Device Setup > VST Audiosystem (it's named slightly different in different versions).

I don't have a clue what you mean, but it sounds promising.
