Recommend me some monitors for around 200 quid...

Hi. Am willing to spend 200 or more on active or passive monitors. You can't beat experience so I thought I'd seek help from those in the know and those who have used various things before... Poor monitoring is responsible for some of my cack-sounding music right now...

Many thanks...

i'd say spend that money on a top-notch pair of headphones rather than monitors. £200 monitors would probably sound pretty shabby. if you've got your heart set on speakers though, i believe alesis do some monitors within that price range. good luck!

ok, clearly i'm gonna need to spend more. say 400 quid.

what would you do or monitoring with 400 quid to burn?

I've had my M1s for about 5 years now and love them. Still best to test everything in multiple environments but they're fine for the initial mixdown.

yeah for that budget, krk rokits, alesis, or tapco would be a good choice. you could get tapco s8s and the tapco sw10 subwoofer for about £360. i got the s8s and they are mean, so im guessing with the sub added, it would be an even meaner setup.

I'd say the krks would be better, from what i've been hearing.

edit: i checked that link for the alesis, and believe me, those monitors are SHIT! they have a set at college and they are really really pussy. go for the KRKs, those alesis sound dead.

ive got the tapco s8's as my ears where starting to get fucked from always working on headphones, there ok, my senheisser (HD25) headphones are alot better with a flat and broad frequency response and i find them good for djing also.

a mastering engineer recently told me that a decent pair of headphones are equivalent to most expensive near field monitors,

personally ive found this to be the case, stick to really good pair of headphones unless you've got about a grand to spank on dynaudios or some genelecs.

They're the Alesis M1 Active MK2s

They don't look as robot-techno as the ones you posted, no.

Event TR8s £329
http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop ... ct_id/3636

They're great for the price , I then aded a Tannoy TS12 (£400 ish) sub once I could afford it, and lets face it, you need a sub when making Dubstep

I'm quite happy with my Alesis M1 Active MK2s. I've had them for about a year and a half. Slightly worried that i may be wearing the bass out on them though. :(
