I've found that theres two major styles that would fit what you're talking about. 1. the deeper chillout, forensix style vibes, and 2. the indian/tribal
you could also mix dubstep with real dub (what a concept)... and downtempo that slow enough.

Better off known in Psy-Trance circles is a guy called OTT.. he hasn't released an album in fair few years but is a regular at all the big psy festivals and parties.
He has album on Twisted records.. Blumencraft and a remix album he did called 'in dub' . As well as a load of other remixes and stuff.
I recommended it if psy dub is what u want.

All of the Shpongle & Shulman CDs, and
Circuit Breaker by Tripswitch along with tracks like
Collider &
Subdown he's contributed towards compilations.
I'm also working on bringing Dubstep closer to this style:

Nice stuff matey
i always found that a lot of the psy stuff is a little too dreamy and not really 'dubstep ready' if you get watt i mean. Cus as u know, dubstep aint no backroom chillout music. I guess dubstep is almost the opposite to the psy stuff where less is more as opposed to overloading it with floaty arp's and pads.(im a victim of this actually.. ha..but in moderation innit)
Ill be interested to see what u come up with mate.

Psydub is overall, a pretty dope genre. Sometimes it gets on the newage cheesy side tho. Most big trance parties and festivals have a "chill" stage where they play a lot of that stuff. The really sick shit is by a guy named Bluetech (
www.bluetechonline.com) "Elementary Particles EP".
I've played dubstep on a few chill stages this summer and its gone off proper.

I saw this thread accidentally when browsing, and had to register just so I could answer ur question. I believe exactly what your looking for it Nagual Sound Experiment. He is more dubstep than psychedelic, but the influence is clearly there. Uplifting, hugely danceable and generally f-in amazing. I saw him a couple of weeks ago at glade festival, and he blew everyones minds. Really dirty, chunky basslines, but with a psychedelic touch. Without the dreamy aspect of it. Sounds like it fits ur description.
Only problem is that his debut albums not out yet...

no worrries tho - I had a word with him after the set, and he says its on its way very soon.
If you want to check him out, look him up on myspace,
www.myspace.com/nseliquid
or on the liquid records website.
hope that helps. (oh and he also does psy-breaksy shizzle, under the moniker "mood deluxe" altho I think the NSE stuff is waaay better.)

yeh, dont get me wrong, I absolutly LOVE shpongle, ott, bluetech, etc. But none are really close to dubstep. Shpongle is a genre within itself, Ott is ambient dub, Bluetech is a more minimal-esque type of ambient dub. None really have the heavy basslines that are stereotypical of dubstep. NSE does. However, I quite agree, anyone not familiar with the above and who likes dub at all should be shot if they dont at least check em out. Some of the best music available in my opinion.
By the way (sidetracking slightly) Ott lovers should check out Kuba. Oh and also umberloid, Ott's project with Chris Barker, which he tells me should be out within the next 6 months. Ott's second new solo album is due (hopefully) before xmas.
And... SHPONGLE 4 IN 2008!!! WOOOOOOO
