Hey Guys , after playing guitar for a few years and the odd instrument here and there ive decided well for a while ive wanted to startcreating dubstep and remixes etc, i dont do music at A level or at GCSE more of a past time and hobby than a 'career'. Obviously with anything knew i have minimal like knowledge of what or where to start with dubstep. Would appreciate any advice or links to good beginners software or tips and and general advice

to add to that: listen to as many tracks as possible to get a feeling for production.

Pick a DAW and use it... Pick a synth and use it... try to make music that you would like... Dont expect to be good anytime soon...

yes because using torrent to get really expensive music software had nothing to do with not having the money to pay for it, oh and everyone 14 year old likes skrillex.

Also please explain whats wrong with skrillex? As far as I know most people who like dubstep like brostep like skrillex. UKF dubstep is the second most subscribed channel on youtube. If a lot of people like music you dont like then the chances are that it is your judgment is off not the majority's. After all if music is good or not is a matter of opinion, its not like a right or wrong problem like maths. The only way to judge it is to take to majority's opinion as the best answer, More people like Brostep than the few closed minded people on this forum.

Dont let majority dictate your thought process. Your brain is a dictatorship, your tastes arent up for a mass vote. I dont disagree with what yoursaying, about skrillex blehblehbleh... but like... to say 'the best way to judge music is by seeing what most people like' is silly.

most of the people won't consume music as an art. As a matter of fact, most of the people won't consume raw art at all. They need something processed that immediately meets their needs, then they discard it. Good music is art, good music comes from experimentation and requires that the listener understands and if possible relates to the artistic process behind it.

Different songs make you fell a different way and if you like the way music makes you feel then you will play it and like it, that what people want at the end of the day.

The guy make alot of money so I respect him for that and from my musical point of view its good music, the production is amazing and the sound design blows me away. Deep tracks aren't boring (depends on the track of course). Brostep tunes usually are far from complex...there are exceptions, but...taking a sound and distorting it heavily doesn't make you a musical genius. I can respect people like Flux Pavilion and some things by Excision/Downlink/Datsik...but the typical sequence of quantized, loud, distorted sounds is not complex, especially not in comparison to most good deep tunes.

You say that like making the sounds that you find in brostep is easy. If you expect to just add distortion to a sound then your gona have a bad time. Are you really saying that minimal dubstep is more complex than brostep? I dont know what brostep your listening to but you have no idea.

Fist brostep track I could think of. Its not simple in any way. the sound design is complex and the call and responce in the midrange bass sounds take alot of time to get right.

The tune you posted did not sound very difficult to recreate. The synths sound basic and the only call-and-response I heard was between distorted midrange and distorted midrange. The drums were decent though. I don't know what deep dubstep you're listening to either, because the deep dubstep I listen to is fairly complex.

The pheleleh tune I have never heard before and I did like it but its very simple and I could quickly recreate it. The are no harmonys and very few overdubs in the vocals. Having random drums come in with a delay and reverb on them is not complex to me. Burial I do rate as on a different level musically and was bit complex.

I feel like your saying that creating a deep vibe is harder than creating a hype vibe. Also the your calling this music deep but its more depressing than deep, not to say its not deep because it is. I know alot of people that would say that trance is deep.
