For a long time now I've been using Poise and sequencing my drums via midi.. I can't hp/lp on each layer of a drum pad though, which I need to do. I've been rewiring the Drum Rack from my Ableton to do this. Anybody sequencing in audio? I tried this method yesterday and it gives good results, things get messy though but you can hide tracks and folders in Reaper which is great. How you other Reaper users go about it?

I've been getting good results programming audio. I affect a one shot during sound design, and c/p that. The advantage is that you see the tail/length of the hit.

I just lay all my samples straight to the grid unless I'm playing something by hand, which I rarely do. in that case I just load the sample into the reasampleomatic. I like the sequencer for drums especially cuz you can get a really tight grid if you need it. I don't usually snap stuff though.

I use straight to grid as hudson does or I use Battery, occasionally reasomplomatic and short circuit.
Doesn't poise allow hp/lp, I remember it being there.

have you tried linking pads instead of layering? it's not a perfect solution, but that way you can use different filters on different samples while still triggering everything from one pad. (if i recall correctly.)

i just do drums as audio usually. i like being able to see the waveforms as i lay stuff out. then i can collapse the folder when i'm not working on them. i think you can group clips in reaper, which might be useful for this kind of thing, but i've not tried it.

I think most of the Reaper users that used to lurk here have since gone on to lurking in the Cockos forum, seeing as 90% of the content here is entry level or sub-entry level.

But yes, personally I prefer to arrange by hand. Not sure what you mean about not being able to HP/LP individual pads though.

Sometimes I'll try to vary things up by taking a different workflow, and of all of those alternate approaches I've had decent results using the free Grizzly VSTi:

What I mean is, say for example I'm layering a kick drum, I'd like to HP/LP the individual layers on the pad. You can only HP/LP the overall kick that the 2 kicks make together. Linking pads sounds like it'd work, thanks for that. I'm quite enjoying layering in audio, I may keep things this way. It's cool to see everything visually and not just as clips.

I like poise for the pad layering.
It makes for some easy 808, hard kick combos.

Poise is excellent, don't get me wrong anybody. Definately worth investing in if you use Reaper.

Not sure how similar they are, but in Adobe Audition I used a free vst step sequencer. Forgot the name but I found it on KVR.
