I have been trying to figure this out for a while now. It's the main sound that comes in right at the drop.

For those types of sounds, people say there's some oscillator parameter in massive called "formant." I don't use massive, so I can't confirm the validity of that suggestion.

formant is type of filter, an in massive you can use formant wavetabels or use the "formant" option in each osc..... FIGURE is really good at useing formants in his basslines.

yea man, the high part is a formant version of a wavetable...experiment to see which sounds best to you. Just about most of those with a good amount of harmonics will come close so long as you layer. Layering is key here: There is a formant higher pitched layer, a solid mid with good amount of audible distortion and definitely sub. Experiment with those 3 layers and see what gets you close. The more I listen to it, it sounds like the mid was created first and then layered on top with a formant version of itself because there are similar timbre characteristics to the layers. Just my two cents

Probably, if not I would say it is thor. Most synths are the same some with more features then others so it does not really matter.

More importantly than looking at it that way, say to yourself, "I'm going to do what he said in the synthesizer that I know best." In my experience so far, and I've done a fuck ton more reading than most, synthesis is applied across the board. Yes synths eventually start to "have their own sound" but I myself, and you, are not there yet to determine otherwise. I've read that certain base reese's from certain synths are, out the door, more full and harmonically sound that others, making them more ideal for resampling than say those from massive (though I myself have ONLY ever worked in massive, nexus, and operator, though now strongly moving toward fm8), and have gotten some WICKED sounds..some of which are on my SC. Also I've read that Bassnectar switched to ableton because his songs were starting to sound too "reason-y" for him...just saying, ultimately this:

Practice. Practice. Practice. When I was starting out, I searched so fucking hard for the best tutorial that got me closest to the bass I heard first in Hydra by Spor. Then it was Trench Foot by Culprate. At the end of the day, I'm more appreciative that I haven't found a video that showcases those sounds' sound design as I wouldn't have gone down the experimental paths I've taken. I don't know the "music" quite yet, but shit have I made some dirty bass. Seriously...
