Are they as bad for producing as people say they are, I just got a pair for myself mostly for listening cuz i'll be commuting to school next semester, maybe a little DJing (which i know is hwat their best for) but my producing headphones broke, i'm wonderin if the Seinheissers are worth using for production...

i use them for a bit of production, but you'll get serious fatigue on them faster than "production" headphones.

like everything, you can get used to them and calibrate your levels accordingly

not the best for production, but it can be done.

i agree with south3rn on ear fatigue with these, becomes quite painfull after a short time if you've got the volume up at any level.

only other thing i have to add is.... be prepared to buy a 2nd headphone cable, as its pretty hard to produce with one ear

bought my hd25s 6 years ago and i'm still on the original cables.

I like em... But oddly enough I do about 85 -90 % of my production on Sony mdr v700's... Not production headphones at all but I like em and have learned them pretty well

OP, those are some serious DJ headphones, not really built for production. However, as other people have said, it can be done.

For the longest time I was producing on Sony MDR-270s, and before that I was using some Optimus Nova 57s. Now I produce and DJ with my Sennheiser HD 201s, which I think have really rich bass response. If I can pop out bangers with HD 201s, you can pop out bigger bangers with HD 25s.

I have always mixed down on my HD25s.
a/b the mix on a few different systems - return to mix and tweak accordingly
you'll soon start to know how things should sound on them.
you can achieve tight mixdowns on any setup as long as you approach it in the right way.

I don't even like producing on hd 201s
the 280s are worth every penny

I currently use HD25s for production but I would not recommend it, they're great for DJing but pretty terrible for any kind of critical listening.

Well since this appears to be also a kind of general discussion on headphones: I was going to get some audio technica ath m50, but since I use voip a lot i got a headset with good ratings on the frequency spectrum. Turns out it's actually suited pretty damn well for mixing. My previous headphones had way too much bass (as 90% of all headphones do probably) and now i got the steelseries siberia v2 which has really clean, crispy highs. I love them and when mixing i finally get a properly balanced spectrum in my tracks and everything sounds way cleaner on other systems. Pretty cool.

They aren't as terrible as some people are making out. I use them for DJing and if I'm not at my monitors or feel like lying down and making a tune i'll use them. Mixes translate ok from them, not perfectly and not as good as my monitors but i'd expect that. To be honest though one person telling you they are bad for critical listening means nothing, that person doesn't have the same abilities as you and different preferences. What I mean by this is that they might not understand much about how they translate, and thus brush them off as being rubbish but someone else might have learnt how they tend to translate and can get a decent mix out of them. They might work for you, you'll just have to find out for yourself like with most things listening wise.

For me, i'll make a track with them, get ideas down/arrangments etc. Mix down to an extent but I will expect to have to go over it again using my monitors, make changes and then reference on other systems so I can properly finish of a track.

I've heard camo & croooked use them in their production process, not sure if it's true or not as I can't remember where I heard it.

Second pair of dj headphones I ever owned and I've only just replaced the earpads after like 8 years, good shit.
Used em occasionally for producing on the road etc but not my preferred choice.

Anyone else's ears hurt from these. Hopefully i just have to break em in. Its pretty tight over the ears
