Can I use line in with guitar rig?

I've got the guitar rig software that bundled with my keyboard, and I was wondering if I could hook up my guitar output to the line in on my pc for guitar rig. Is this possible?

Guitar is high impedance, low voltage. A line level signal is low impedance and lowish voltage. So you can take a line out of your real amp and into your PC. Not straight out of your guitar, theoretically anyways.

In theory if you can find an adapter for 1/4" to whatever you're line in would be it should work. It will just be really low volume. If you have active pickups it might work better.

What kind of guitar is it?
If it's an electro-acoustic or an active pickup electric gtr (which is not so common, it's more a bass thing) (there's a battery inside) it should work right (modulo the soundcard quality).
If not you'll have buzz and a bad sound. It's like plugging a turn table directly to line instead of phono.
Many gtr amp have a line out, you could try this. Multi-Effects too.
Many home studio console have "Hi-Z" input and line output it's another reliable solution.

Get something like a pod or a similar line in tool for direct recording.

If ya are gonna spend any money don't waste it on a pod just get an audio interface and thatll work fine. As for your original question in theory ya not suppose to do it but it has worked fine for many others so yea its up to you really.

I do have that weird large audio output to the regular 3-1/2 mm jack, but I'm sure I can just amplify the input through the sound's control panel.

Yes but your noise floor will be really high, so you'll have more static when you crank the volume.

For some people, something like the pod is ideal.

Well obviously you seeing as ya getting a bit defensive about it, don't take it personally I'm just giving my opinion on it. Rather than trying to back up what you've said why don't ya just try helping the guy out.
To the OP why haven't you just tried it already!!?? Its been long enough now and ya just keep trying to justify reasons it might work, why don't you try it seeing as you haven't even gotta buy anything?

wtf??
I don't even have one.
I know a few people who have them or tried them and they find them ideal.
How did I not help him?
I suggested an interface which you in turn also suggested.
You just manipulated my statements and made them yours.

The pod is an audio interface.
Don't think to hard about this.

Ok so I'm the bad guy here but your the one trying to be the smart arse, I've only suggested getting an audio interfrace seeing as he's got guitar rig already and an interface will cost just as much as the pod. And if he doesn't already have an interface already then maybe he should get one. (If he's not a producer I'm sorry I just assumed seeing as the post is on a production forum).
And yea the pod might be an audio interface but so's a beringher and I wouldn't waste my money on that shit either.

I suggested something.
That was the point of this thread.

Yea but it wasn't point of your pointless argument was it? And now I've explained myself you've got nothing else to say other than make out that your bitching was inoccent.

It won't sound great, but it will sound.

I would just get a cheap "guitar > usb" deal, or if that osunds like shit (I don't know), just get an interface with an instrument in. You can get them for a decent price now.
I'd also advise against the POD, not cuz it sucks, but yeah, you have guitar rig, so no point in shelling out extra cash for something a regular interface + guitar rig already does. Hell, most people who have used both think that emulation software is better than a POD anyway (and I own a PodXT).

My point is being missed I think.
I wasn't pointing to the pod for it's effects, I was merely referring to it's instrument in.
