Spreadin' the Vibe...Dubstep in Chiapas, Mexico

I'm in San Cristobal de las Casas in the state of Chiapas, Mexico on a fellowship...studying Spanish, kickin' it around a bit, writing music, and dj'ing.

Nobody here knew anything about dubstep. They know plenty about dub, reggae, ska, punk, and a million rockin' indiginous forms of percussive mayhem.

It's been mad cool to watch faces twist and asses quiver when that 50hz hits.

I figure folks in D.F. are up on dubstep. Any1 know anything about Mexican and Central/South American dubstep? I know Brazil is on the map, but where else? What types of sounds are coming out of fuckin' Honduras and Columbia and Argentina and Chile?¡¿!

Also, a few tunes I've written while here are posted on www.virb.com/searchl1te - "Language Barrier", "Menaced", "The Healing" - all of which contain elements of field recordings I've been making in Mexico. Links to the full pack of street music and ambience to come...

Tight like the mask on Marcos.
