If you have to eq a sound to the point you have 9 Eq's is it even worth using that sound?

Why are you using 9 EQ's? Let's say you are using an EQ3 (you probably are using an EQ8 but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.) That's still 27 boosts or cuts. I don't think I've ever EQ'ed that much on one sound... Surely you can just make the sound better in the given vsts that you are using? I can imagine that the sound is very prominent after cutting out so many frequencies.... So to answer your question, IMO no it's not worth using that sound.

Fruity's pram eq 2 has 7 bands, and usually I am getting rid of single freqs or low/high pass.

Sounds like you might be attempting some serious turd-polishing if you feel it needs anywhere near that much EQ processing. Change your original sound somehow instead

I was thinking about just scraping it, but the initial sound is not that bad.

Saw tooth lfo wave makes it sound less shity I guess though.

Yeah, i would try to change the original sound instead of eqing the shit out of the sound. I think its better to use more time creating the patch than changing the sound of the patch with eq and other fx, but always you cannot get to the same point with build in fx than using vst plugins..

9 EQ's that made me giggle Either way man if they are not boosting and just cutting there isnt much of a problem at all.. if your happy with the sound don't worry about it!

Don't dwell on the EQing, seriously. Give your bass some reverb, that's what it's begging for to my ears. Then it'll sound pretty awesome

Yes! That is very good advice thanks for enlightening me! Though I suck at reverb, I only have Fl's reverb plugins and some really complicated one(Epicverb).

Try using epicverbs "top" presets as a send (make them 100% wet), some sound really good.

EQ should be used for mixing, not sound design. I try to use as little EQ as possible, it makes the composition better if everything sits in its own range without EQ.

Went from 9 eqs to none with hella wet reverb.....harsh stnuc

That seems like a lot of EQing IMO...

I have 4gb of ram, and a quad core amd. So, I would hope that is not the problem. Maybe I have too much stuff installed but I have 300 something gb in free space on my hard drive. Might be the fact that I don't have a sound card besides the onboard one, but I asked that question awhile back and people said it didn't matter unless I was getting crackly noises, and 99% of the time I am not. I will put a picture up too show how I have it set up in my mixer.

for a mid bass, i usually cut below 100, dip 1 db at snare punch, slightly boost around 5k and cut the high end depending on he timbre and processing.

sorry to potentially derail the thread, but i was thinking about the phrase 'polish a turd'. if you polish a turd to much, then you might rub away the turd so much that all you have left is polish. does this mean that if you keep trying to make something bad into something good so much, it actually turn into something good?
