So given the current climate of record sales as well as the fact that most aspiring producers dont have the time or the resources to make albums, i find that less and less people are actually listening to albums with many of my friends' iTunes a pick and mix of all different tunes. I still love to listen to a well crafted album that has a narrative and links together. What about you guys? Am i just a twat...

I'm with you though, I love albums.

Well i made an album but my point is i think most producers especially young ones are focusing on making that one track that will get them their breakthrough you know, they dont even think about making albums until they have record deals and maybe thats why the first albums of some artists are shit lol.

Lik bit of thread derailing but is it just me or does it irk you when people throw 4 random tunes of there's together and call in an EP....I guess I'm under the assumption that of songs are gonna be grouped together like that they should at least give off a similar feeling..

Much prefer cohesive releases that feel like you should sit down and listen to the whole thing, not just pick and choose tracks.

Don't mind so much with EPs but some albums just feel like an excuse to release a load of tracks someones had knocking around for a few years

Take 4 banging tracks, add some dope artwork, call it and EP. Badda bing, badda boom.

I'd prefer to collect albums. EPs are a bit obnoxious to me.

while i agree with your guys view, i honestly don't mind if 1 out of the 4 tunes DOESN'T fit the mold...
as long as its as well produced as the other tunes then fine.... however, if it sounds like its just been wang'd in as an afterthought than that's an entirely different matter.

thats another phrase thats pissing me off.. everyone and their mothers seems to be making tunes for the "EP" when there not even signed...i just find it a little weird

I wonder how much of it is ... these guys get as far as maybe four tracks, and decide that if they don't release NOW then they'll sound obsolete before they hit the market.

So much for originality I guess.

Yeah thats a good point never thought of it like that. Especially given the hot demand of 'dubstep' in the mainstream music scene. Furthermore does anyone have a favourite dubstep album?

personally i don't mind a proper collection of tunes. Doesn't have to be one cohesive, unified thing. But yeah, don't just throw some random tunes just to fill an album's worth of music. as for favourite albums, probably peverelist's jarvik mindstate, geiom's island noise, the f and helixir ones, dusk & blackdown's margins music... Besides the more obvious ones, of course.

At least some of the time, there must be a mentality of 'don't run before you can walk'.

i would never be patient enough, to dont release my tracks for such a long time

Yeah i just think its a shame that the craft of making albums seems to be becoming more and more redundant. Maybe it isnt but it sure does feel like the emphasis in our age of music is to make 'bangers' rather than peices of art that will be remembered for years to come. Maybe im just being a tnuc about the whole thing tho...

i think it has less to do about musicians aiming at making single bangers instead of full albums than it has to do with the formats we now use to listen to music

on vinyl record or even on cassette tape, you would just listen to it from start to end, CD's gave us the luxury to skip tracks, then the mp3 players filled with teraoctets of music finished the job

Well I have only 'really' released EPs apart from a few single tracks on compilations/remixes EPs (and some really shitty singles from a time I wasn't ready to release music..) and now I am writing an album. Its completely vocalized and conceptional, with the hope that it'll be a listen start > finish album running deep through it (like all my EPs).

Thats how I listen to music so that is how I write it. I guess it just depends on who is buying/listening/writing the music.
