I know people have made thread like this before but i didnt want to bump someone elses problem just because i know people will just read the first page and help that guy out instead of me

Basically im pretty new to vinyl decks and im not 100% confident calibrating them myself although i think i have the gist of it....

When im going to cue my tracks on one of my decks the needle feels very light ontop on the vinyl, almost like it isnt pressing down hard enough and when the first kick drum hits the needle will sometimes skip out of place...my tone arm seems to be level and ive followed instructions on how to make sure the right weight is pressing down but i still have the problem

Do you think its a problem with the needle or what? btw i have no idea how old my needles are as i havnt replaced them since i bought them

sounds like the counterweights too far back man, give it a couple of turns and bring in back in and that should sort it :)

Is the little raisey-lowery bar (the one that lifts the arm if you use the lever) stuck? Could be keeping the arm from properly resting on the record. (excuse the terminology :6: )

But yeah, if it feels light, just add a little more weight until it doesn't skip. Should be fine. What needles are you using? And how much weight have you put on them?

I know exactly how frustrating problems are so I'll try and help as much as I can (which might not be a lot). :D

yeah this is probably the issue, if not just add more weight

try adding more counterweight, do the coin trick where you tape a coin to the headshell, and if that doesn't work then maybe your needles fucked, OR it could be the record. have you tried it with multiple records?

only been on technics a couple of times, but one of those times it had the same problem, it turned out to be that the needle was fucked.

sounds like it could be the weight then, up to now i have been following those youtube videos by taking the weight off until the tone arm stays up by itself then setting that point to 0 then turning the wieght so its on about 2.5...i'll have a play round tonight
does it matter that i dont think my antiskip works ???

I've had that problem with a very slightly concave or convex record, have you tried it with a few different ones?

Be gentle with the Cueing... Have you checked your tonearms are locked? (little thingy with LOCK written next to it)
