I'm going to be moving out to Chicago for the foreseeable future. Anyone from the Midwest mind filling me in on the scene out there? So far the only place I've read about having a dubstep night is smart bar. How is it? Do they play tear out or some decent dubstep as well? Any other clubs/nights/local dj's I should be aware of?

Just seen this. Smart Bar is an amazing club. Vibe is perfect - it's in a basement - with not a lot of lights or fancy accessories, just a Funktion One and a dance floor. Lately, myself and others have been pushing for a return of the deeper sound in addition to the non-classifiable 'bass music' that has been coming out. This year, we've had Scuba, Silkie, Girl Unit, FSTZ, and are having Caspa, Africa Hitech and Truth before the year is over.

On nights that there isn't an out of town headliner, locals play and it depends on that particular DJ. For the most part, 'brostep' is most popular here - but that's because it's the most popular EVERYWHERE. There are a lot of really good local DJs (IE me ) including Whoa-B (who is internet famous), DJ Belly, Geecee, BRC, Phaded, and Slevin. There are also producers like Richie August and Nameloc doing big things - but they play and make tear-out which doesn't sound like your thing.

It just depends, honestly. I get frustrated at the lack of proper dubstep that is played, but just support the nights/DJs pushing the sound you want to hear and those people will get booked more.

Awesome. Definitely heading out to see Truth in December. Thanks for listing the Dj's gonna be checking everyone out. You'd think in a city as big as Chicago there would be someone pushing the deeper sound.

Mala was here last year. Trolley Snatcha was on the bill but something about his visa was wrong and he couldn't get in the country. I'm playing at the Truth gig, make sure you say hi!

Another thing that sucks is people have a love for producers like NitGrit who really are not good...

Oh, and I gotta big up Chris Widman. Put it this way, first time I saw him DJ he dropped "Bombscare"! Super cool guy as well.

Stuntman is headlining somewhere in Chicago soon. I have a feeling it may actually be tonight! He's got lots of unreleased Dubliminal stuff so go check him out!
