I've been producing for so long now without a MIDI keyboard and i'm really starting to get tired of it. I've been looking online for one and found there are just so many to choose from. hoping to buy one for around £100 and am mainly looking for good build quality. If anyone can recommend anything that would be great

This keyboard came up on a lot of the sites i was looking through, definately does seem to have a lot of good features for the price, i'm just wondering what the build quality will be like if you're getting so much for money? thanks though i will definately look into this

i cant recommend you any because im also searching for the same thing,but i can give you a tip from personal experience ,dont buy the m-audio stuff ,it is pure shit,i bought mine like 8 month ago and it just stoped working.

I've had my M-Audio Oxygen for about 8yrs now, still working fine.

Ive got an mpk49 built like a tank and really nice to use but the pads need modding and theyre a bit pricey. Try ebay I reckon

I use the Korg microKey - 37 keys... velocity sensitive, fairly basic but thats what i wanted

I've had my M-Audio Oxygen for about 8yrs now, still working fine.

My old Oxygen was a hand-me-down which I subsequently got tea, beer and even piss inside (don't ask) and it still works just fine.

The Alesis above is definitely your best bet for the money.

I read loads of reviews on AMAZON before buying mine, hundreds of in depth and honest reviews on there...

I like my Axiom-61....best keyboard action in a MIDI keyboard IMO.

I've been using a mpk mini for about a year now. Action isn't steinway, but its awesome for jotting down ideas. Plus the knobs and the pads are super useful and awesome. Did I mention it's awesome?

any recommendations for a quality midi keyboard that is fully weighted? i'm a piano player so keen to replicate the touch of real keys as much as possible..?

I was looking at the Akai MPK 88 and this seems like a good shout, has anyone used one? has an mpc drum pad, faders and knob controllors on too which seem would be handy as dont have any other controllers

The Akai series is great IMO. Pads are a little ropey compared to their pure samplers, but other than that they're solid. Usually wouldn't suggest an 88 key, but if you're a keyboard player already, you're obviously going to get some use out of it.

Won't find anything better for the price, IMO

ok cool that seems to match up with my research. think i want an 88 fo sho, also i think its the only in the mpk range with all of its touch/ dexterity kind of features, plus think you can split the key board anyway and have two 44 sets playing different loaded sounds.

interesting to hear the pads don't match dedicated equipment. still, don't want to go out and buy loads of stuff so i guess its better to have them then not at this stage. cheers

You can replace the pads (few guides on Google) but it's by no means a show stopper.

cool thakns. one last thing, what about just buying a synth instead, and getting the advantage of having a hardware synth, and using it as a midi controller? I figure something like a Korg triton might be a shout?

A Korg Triton would be a great shout, I know Korg do the Taktile series which is a synth/controller style kit however it's only semi weighted IIRC and I don't ever recall seeing an 88 key one.

Out and out Triton wise, they stopped making them the pure synths in 2007 (I think?) when they released the M3 as it's replacement, so if you wanted an actual Triton synth (and not the Taktile hybrid) it'd probably be second hand.

If you were after the current Kronos series synth, the 88 key model is over £3k...which may or may not be out of your price range for this. Also around there you've got the M50 etc.

ok, the Taktile series looks interesting, 49 key triton could be a shout. but yeah by and large these synths are too expensive for now, will stick to hybrid/ str8 midi thing

MPK 288 will be coming out shortly. Best to wait for that. They've apparently fixed the pads issue. I've got a 61 with MPCStuff pads and it's in pretty decent shape now. Still took an extra layer of tape on the fatpads to get the sensitivity where I want. The faders and knobs feel pretty nice, build quality is good, etc
