How many MB should a final production WAV and MP3 file be?

I think something is wrong. My Wav files are exporting at 40 to 50 MB. And my MP3 is at 10 to 20 MB. Is that correct? I feel it should be at 1 to 10 MB for a 5 minute song.

My Wav's and MP3 are the same size. If you want them under 10 mb, you'll have to give up quality, which aint good

My MP3s are usually around 10mb (320kbps) and my WAVs around 100mb (32bit).

My .WAVs are usually around 100-140MBs, my 320 MP3s around 14 or so.

Same, @ 24bit.
A 320Kbps file is roughly 2.5MB/minute.

You should never upload anything below 320 if your serious about it, so those sizes are about right.

The size of the file really doesn't have anything to do with what you are doing with the song. Size is determined by bitrate. If you rendered a 58 second file of complete silence as a 320 mp3 it's about 2.2 mbs. The same 58 second 320 with sound is still 2.2 mbs. There's no correlation between how good or bad your song is with the size of the file.

I find it odd that people are still concerned about file size. Also that people are concerned about their CPU when working on tunes. This is 2012. A terrabyte hard drive is standard now and 2 ghz processor is considered below average.

It is not particularly relevant is it ? MP3 will depend on the bit rate you choice during encoding.

be more concerned about quality.

Your .wav will vary size depending on 24/16 bit. Always keep an unlimited/unclipped 24 bit version of your track in case it needs to be
professionally mastered at a later stage.

cheers

A lot of people are wondering this because they are used to like 4mb tracks, they download from the web.
Those are usually low quality rips.

But yeah, 10 - 20mb @ 320 is fine.
