Way to cut down on scratchy sounds when playing vinyl?

Some of the songs on these albums have a lot of scratchy sounds. And its not supposed to be there. Any way to make it to where they aren't there so much whether during playing or edit it afterwards?

well you could clean them
check the weight on your stylus
clean your stylus
EQ
& in audacity there is a function to remove certain wavelengths, so what i used to do is select a bit of recording while the needle was on the cue path, or that bit w/ no sound, and select that & then select all & remove that sound from the entire recording... dont do this anymore tho, b/c you lose a lot of highs
ive realized that for hip hop, i actually like crackles, they add to the tune so i rarely do anything anymore other than cut out the most annoying, loud pops

Yeah I could see it for hiphop, but I don't like it on these Disco & Rock records. But thanks for the advice

There are plugins that can help with this, Waves has a few that remove common frequenicies where scratching and hisses occur.

How do you EQ a crackle, it's not like it's on one certain frequency?

So just eq out part of a tune?
Edit: i maybe wrong, but i don't think he was talking about EQing, more likely some noise removing plugin, which is a bit different than just adding an equalizer on top.

personally i think disco and rock sound much better with some crackle, both genres often sound pretty shit when the sound quality's too clean

Well, the reason I'm trying to get them cleaned up is to get some samples from them...

clean the record, make sure your stylus is dust free, other than that yea eq is about all you can do
there are plugins aimed to reduce vinyl crackle out there though

Why bother sampling vinyl if you are going to clean it up? Just buy CDs or .wav files. ...

Fair play. Unless the crackle is just TERRIBLE I don't see an issue...but I like that kind of "character" in a sample. Pretty much the only options I'm aware of have been listed here for trying to reduce that. Except maybe expensive plug ins that are supposed to clean up audio.
