Think it was around April/May 2006, read a review of a Dubstep Allstars in Knowledge and downloaded a mix called ''Deep Subs'' or something, had loads of Vex'd tunes on it. Thought it was quite good but a bit boring (I was into dnb at the time). Then my mate sent me some links from boomkat and Anti War Dub, Haunted, Midnight Request Line and Ancient Memories Skream RMX all made me prick my ears up (and ear my prick up, probably). Then I went to see Kode 9 at a May Detonate in Nottingham and was blown away and started masturbating furiously to dubstep the very next day.

Woodstock '69 in the RnB tent - the DJ was playing it after Usher's secret set, just before Keith Sweat came and tore it up.

Midnight Request Line on *cough* myspace, just before Skream played his first Newcastle show which I attended even though I hadnt a clue how to dance to it!

Got the Rephlex GRIME comp after reading enough reviews on it. Actually, I got that the day it came out. Before/after/during that period my friend who lives in london (I live in italy) would not stop going on and on about FWD>>
Had been on to IDM since long time, but was definitely thirsty for something new. Rephlex was spouting off about this being the new "new"
May 25, 2004 was the release date of that./
but I had no idea what it was on about til I went to FWD in oct 2005. Plastician and kode 9 played.

oh and plastician was siiiiiiiiiiiiick.
Kode was very disappointing. The waste mc kept messing with the levels, turned the midranges up high and nearly deafened me. And pulled up the tune w the midranges up. On that system, that should be outlawed by the geneva convention.

I quoted Doc Scott's -
Honey tune somewhere else on this board, from the Metalheadz boxset from '97. Was that dubstep? I reckon it was.
And for the breakcore set, Dj Scud, fuckin around with twisted 2step bass on the Roots Rock Ravers EP, on Transparant from 2001.
No Love... i've got lots of love for that tune. A classic.
Groovetech back in their heydays. My next stop
may have been the Dubplate.net & Hyperdub Transmission shows, Martin Clark, Dan Frampton, K9, amazing Oris Jay guest slots. Also efforts from J Da Flex, and Emma Feline.
Got to give props to
www.garagepressure.com for warping my mind a whole lot too. A big influence from down under.

I was having a bath and listening to resonence fm. Some tune was on that i in retrospect assume must have been early dubstep/dead dark minimal garage.

Vex'd Breezeblock got my interest along with the Virus Syndicate set at Grime at the end, then a couple of early Forensics mixes.
