Need a new laptop

Howdy guys!
How are you all doing?
Let's get to the point, shall we?
I am in need of a laptop for music-making. The reason being my old one broke down (Which caused me to lose about ±30 songs).
However, I have no knowledge or whatsoever about what laptops nowadays do well.
Therefore, I need you guys to help me

!
Seeing as alot of the professionals are using the Macbook pro, I'd like to have something along those lines. However, I believe they are ridiculously overpriced compared to what they give.
So I'm looking for something similar for a lower price (or better for the same price).
It has to be able to run Ableton live 8 well with no fps lag or whatsoever, even when I have a Plugin-heavy song.
Preferably a 15 inch or higher.
The rest is up to you!
I greet you, until we meet again!

buy a early 2012 model refurbished macbook pro. they have a warranty as well. sounds like you want one, and theres nothing any other companies make that are that similar to everything a macbook offers. theres more to look at than basic specs when buying a laptop. things like size, durability, aesthetics, trackpad, etc that come into play when buying a laptop. also osx tends be a tad lighter on the system than windows so many times a similar spec'd macbook will out perform a windows pc with the same specs.
i have a macbook pro and a hackintosh. the mac desktops are totally not worth it. but there laptops definitely are. theres nothing that compares to them imo.

I'd pass on a used Macbook, get an Asus Rog and reap the benefits of outperforming most studio desktops for $1000
I just bought the $1100 version of this, and it's way more powerful than 99% of producers will need...the extra screen real estate is awesome to have too.

HP Pavilion with an 8 gig ram upgrade. Does the job. If you're getting a macbook make sure like eat bass said it's early 2012 (or earlier) the most recend mac has a ton of problems. I heard that it had the motherboard and battery glued in, and that it doesn't have a CD drive? I may be wrong though.

People will say get as many cores as you can afford which is good advice, but I do just fine with my Acer i3. I picked it up for around $500 and only because I couldn't afford a MBP. If your thinking of going the PC route make sure you pick it up before Oct 26 as they will all come with windows 8.

I love apple, but the whole "you can't change your own battery!" mentality is right fucked up.

you can change your own battery...you just have to be smarter than the statement telling you that you cant.

Would I have to buy anything with it? (Except for headphones, that is.)
I'm talking an external harddisk, external audio-card, stuff like that.

with what the macbook? or?
and you don't HAVE to buy anything with it. you can plug your headphones directly into the macbook if you want to and it will be just fine. or if you want a better signal or to plug any instruments in you will want a soundcard. and you wont need an external hard drive unless you want to have it for backup. if the internal hard drive is too small for you i would just buy a bigger one and put it in, its very easy.

That's what I wanted to know really
Many people say MacBook is a decent and reliable laptop that 'just does it', but I wasn't sure about getting a Macbook because there are so many laptops that have the same specs for half or even 1/3 the money.
Though, they haven't really been tested for Ableton, really.
Think I'll go for a macbook, just to be sure.
Always wanted to learn a new OS anyway!
Thanks guys.

you wont be disappointed. check out last years model refurbished 15" macbook pro to save some bucks. you still get the 1 year warranty from apple and can purchase the 3 year warranty later on for like 150 if you want.

After some research I figured out refurbished Macbooks cannot be shipped to my country, therefore Macbook is out of the picture. (I don't want a 13 inch and 15 inch is too expensive.)
Which left me with one option, to find another laptop.
I came across this :
http://azerty.nl/producten/product_deta ... -3-br.html
I just want to know if anyone's got experience with this, or something alike, while using Ableton.
Thank you

Well first of all you are stupid if you did not back up 30+ songs... now that we have that out of the way, I have an acer aspire 5750 with a i7 processor 2.0-2.9 ghz turbo boost, 4gb of RAM SSD Hard Drive. I run ableton just fine even though it isn't very easy on the CPU usage. I only start having problems when I use heavy CPU intensive programs like Ozone on multiple channels. I would say you want to have at least 4gb of RAM though and at least 2.0ghz speed processor multi-core of course.

I'm saving up for the 15" Macbook Pro....if I were you...I'd do the same.
My friend just got his and I'm teaching him how to produce, it's fast as fuck. And there's pretty much no way to get a virus on that thing...
HP shits out on you after a few months...trust me on this. They suck ass.
PC laptops usually overheat and carry a lot of problems...I'd suggest on getting a Macbook pro. It'll be my first Apple Product when I get mine
