I've recently had a concern about how little I take breaks when I'm producing.
Not to mention the fact that I'm almost always wearing headphones and that the volume on my computer is on max (though know the track I'm working on isn't mastered to be as loud as it can while still sounding crisp until the end).
Does anyone else share this concern or have their own steps to preventing hearing loss?
I really don't like listening to my music at low volumes, especially when it's a track I'm working on. It's so difficult to resist the temptation.
I've been considering picking up some studio monitors, because it's only logical to me that it'll be easier on my ears. If anyone thinks that's a good idea or knows of any brands or models they would recommend and I'd totally appreciate that.

I know how that feels. I wear custom-fitted earplugs to concerts/raves/shows/etc. now and I never let my headphones go over a certain volume whether I'm listening or producing. Keep in mind that once your hearing is gone, it's gone FOREVER, so be sure to take care of one of the most important assets you'll ever need as a musician.

That reminds me, I've seen sick Excision and Datsik earplugs for sale on the net, but I'm curious as to whether or not they serve their purpose well.
I'm also lucky that I'm as young as I am, so I guess I still have some time to take action haha.

You don't need to buy Excision or Datsik ear plugs, those are probably just branded and you'll be paying premium for that only.

There was a big topic on this a while back. As a starter kit, I suggest Alpine MusicSafe Pro ear plugs, should be around £20 maximum. They are comfortable, small and have 3 filter types.

Not too loud, not too quiet.

I live in Canada so it might be a bit easier for me to purchase another brand, but I'll definitely check these out. Thanks man.

And yeah, I mentioned that I believed that the quality of the Datisk and Excision earplugs might be questionable.

Concerts are one thing, I usually wear plugs there without feeling like an idiot (hearing is a big deal), but night clubs man. Some are so ridiculously fucking loud it's not even funny, and I dare you to show up with plugs to one of those. I'm tellin you, NOT a pussy magnet.

At valve sound system in leeds they used to sell them on the door

Man we went to a club near us a while back, couple of us were literally just dazed and confused for the next few days due to the ringing in our ears. It's not cool.

Just saying the datsik and excision earplugs were sold at their gigs to encourage kids to wear them to stop them damaging their hearing

My problem is clubs that seem to have stupid high end, which to me is way more damaging. No one wants kilowatts of treble shredding their ears.

But yes I agree, when the music becomes distorted, by your own ears, meaning you can't technically hear it - there's a problem heh.

Concerts/clubs, I am usually that lame dude with plastic sticking out of his ears. I usually wear Hearos, the ones that go fairly deep inside the canal...not the most comfortable but you can at least still hear everything, it is just somewhat quieter and I avoid my ears ringing afterwards. Protect your hearing at all costs!!

Datsik ear plugs, what.

I don't get why people are ripping on Datsik/Excision, at least they're actively encouraging people to use earbuds, who gives a shit if they put there brand on them?
