I've been producing dubstep for over a year now trying to get better reading all the useful information from this forum. I've always been into metal and other aggressive forms of music so evidently the stuff i listen to is generally artists like Bratkilla, 12gauge, Mantis, Sadhu etc. So this track is what i really want my sound to be like. Feedback about the overall production and arrangement would be great.

Feel it could use a bit more structure, it's fairly even paced the whole way through the song, although I like the change in the synths around 1:40 and the change up at 2:25. If you into metal, try listening to proggressive for some ideas on song structuring and what not, it's probably better than listening to actual dubstep for that part of producing. I'd suggest bands like Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me, Periphery, Protest the Hero, or even these guys;

Guys like Skrillex and Kill the noise are pretty good in that department aswell, and some of their suff is pretty aggressive and might appeal to you.
Sorry to spam my band but I love doing it way too much to stop.

it does need more structure. more development of the energy. it would also help if the mid range had some movement to it.

Dude, thanks for listening. I loved your Machines and Monsters pt. 2. The basslines in that rack are epic and i love the lead that goes along with it throughout the song.
I wanted the track to sound like something the crowd could headbang or move to together. Hence, the even paced. I do listen to and love Periphery, PTH, Meshuggah, Tesseract, Skyharbor but i still want my songs to have the basic dubstep element yet sound metal. SOmething i would say Bratkilla does really well. Check him out. I will try to make the next track i make a bit more varied in structure. I'm also trying to learn how to make those machingun bass sounds and those filthy reeses that fill up the track. Something you have done pretty well in yours. Again, thanks for the comment.

Could you explain to me what do you mean by adding more movement to the mid range? Thanks.

if you used samples for the mid range you could put a filter on it like 60/40 dry wet the add a little distortion. automate or lfo the filter and it will move frequency's
if your using a synth then find a paramater or move the cutoff and theres your movement.
you can also add efx like flange,phaze but youll have more control with a filter

Even headbanging songs have change ups in them, its that variation that,makes a track. Just like icarus lives by periphery, mad headbanging song but has slower, emotion driven breaks from the agressiveness.

Okay, here is what i normally do in making basslines. I start creating the bass that i want in massive adding notch and comb filters then i resample it and split the frequencies. Then i do add flanger, phasers and other distortion to separate frequencies to get what i want. So are you saying that i need to add another filter on the mid range and automate it to get more movement? I use ableton so is it possible with auto-filter? Thanks.
@Sure_fire. I love Icarus Lives
