MY HEADPHONE SCENARIO - NEED ADVICE

Hey there,

So yesterday my AKG 271 mk2's bombed out and the warrantee is outdated, so i'll be needing a new set of headphones to produce on when i'm not in the studio (which is often).

I am now looking for a new high end set of production headphones. My budget is around $750.

So far I have been looking into:

Ultrasone pro series.

Sennheiser HD600/650.

(maybe even the AKG 271 mk2 again?)

I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could share your opinion on which headphones you think are best and WHY.

Thank you in advance

:w:

mastering engineers all over the world use hd600 because of its neutral sound.

bob katz wrote this on gearslutz:

"Sennheiser HD600. A bonus: They're EXTREMELY comfortable to wear. I've NEVER heard a totally neutral set of cans, or loudspeakers, for that matter. That said, the Sennheiser's are pretty darn flat without any major peaks. I feel they're a bit "warm" or maybe a little heavy in the extreme bottom, but nothing that's an obstacle.

The 650s sound a little brighter or thinner to me and I prefer the 600s."

could just get the akg's again and save the rest of money... you've already become familiar with them, why re-start the learning curve?

spend the rest on an SSD or something, they've been coming down in price

~$170 for a 256gb Samsung 830

I did quite like my AKG's, but I feel that there might be something much better out there. So far the Sennheiser HD600's seem to be winning the battle. Compared to my old AKG's would you say they are better? (for mixdowns/mastering)

i mean, i just dont think the improvement is gonna be otherworldly, given how the AKG's are already pretty damn neutral

but that's just one opinion... from a current akg owner :cornlol:

Beyerdynamics DT990 or DT880.
Your budget is massively overinflated.
