hey dubstepforum,

i use the native instruments audio 8 as my soundcard for music production. however, i am upgrading my dj'ing setup very soon and will no longer need an external soundcard because my new mixer has an internal one. i'm pretty much selling my old setup to my friend and want to cut my costs of upgrading by getting rid of everything that is not essential. is there a substitute soundcard you guys could recommend me to use that is decent in cutting down latency and doesn't cost as much as the audio 8? (i spent $200 on it) that's pretty much all i'm looking for, i don't need anything else. i was looking at the audio 2, looks like it goes for about $100. is that a viable alternative? or would i be able to use my mixer's internal soundcard for producing or is that not ideal? any recommendations are appreciated.

You have the audio 8 but you want another sound card?

Just use the audio 8.

But my answer still stands.
You say you don't want to use the audio 8 because your mixer has an internal soundcard but then ask for a replacement card.
In the end you want to replace your card with another card.

yes. i'd like to replace it with a less expensive one that will do the same job.

So buying anything else is spending money you don't need to spend.
Or is there something else I'm not understanding?

He has a new soundcard in the new set up therefore doesn't want to keep the old one purely for production purposes and would like to make some money back by trying to get a new card by selling the old one. It's not something I use but have you tried ASIO4ALL drivers which are designed to lower latency but at the cost of CPU. I think if you sell that card and get another one, it might not be worth the hasstle if it's in the $200 range, and also you gotta think how much you will actually make on it second hand vs what you will pay for another cheaper one. Like I said though, if ASIO4ALL works for you then you could just get rid of it completely and keep all the profit towards the new DJ mixer/Sound card.

ASIO4ALL is a driver, you need a soundcard to use it (even if it is the onboard on on your mother board which I doubt is what he wants to use). From what I can tell he is selling his whole DJ set up including the soundcard to someone and wants a new soundcard he can use for production. I'd recommend a Saffire 6 or Scarlett 2i2 from Focusrite if you want a cheap, decent, external soundcard/interface

These are pretty much the only good ones under 200$. You might as well keep the NI one though imo.

Yeah, I see that now. Is the audio 2 comparable to these? And is using my mixer's soundcard a possibility?
