Can someone explain frequency splitting to me? I understand how to actually split the frequencies, by routing the sound i want to split to 3 mixer slots with a filter on each and effects. But should i split the frequency of just one sound or my bassline as a whole? Because i generally use more than 5 basses in my basslines so wouldnt that take up a lot of my mixer if i split the frequency of each bass sound im using?

It really depends on why you want to split frequencies. If one patch needs a touch-up then by all means just split that one. There are foreseeable benefits to doing it to your entire bass bus, it might lend it a sense of cohesiveness. Also, what are you planning to do with the splits? Some things, like gentle compression, work well on an entire bass patch to bring all those levels closer to eachother. Something like distortion, however, might sound great for one bass, but terrible for another.

If you're splitting frequencies for the sake of splitting frequencies, however, you might be doing more harm than good.

I sort of understand what your saying. I guess i just need to mess with it more and find out when and when i shouldnt split the frequency
