So yeah, I've always loved orchestral stuff like this. But I am stuck with how to actually incorporate it into my stuff. Like, this for example, I'd love to use it for a breakdown or something(it has so much emotion to it, and vocals like that always get me), but I'm just not sure how. It wouldn't exactly be Dubstep(could be something a completely different BPM), but I just don't know how to approach it. With stuff like this, how do you add it into your tracks while still keeping the emotion the original track has?



Cause keeping that emotional vibe is hard. I'm probably better off leaving these tracks as they are.

i always wanted to incorporate this but never did cause some stuff shouldnt be touched like the acapella of ice cube - it was a good day for example too
hm maybe just listen to stuff that is close to what you are aiming at and copy the way of doing it. i mean araab would make a different song out of it than synkro

For some inspiration on trying to incorporate orchestral stuff into dubstep style tracks check out Blackmill, he's got some really melodic chilled style stuff but manages to incorporate the standard 140bpm drums and wobbles well. Also a lot of tracks on the SuicideSheep youtube channel have similar vibes.

Personally I always like to use strings and choirs on intros/outros and breakdowns (even if they're really low in the mix), if I'm making a house tune I sometimes layer them with my lead synths too.

Haha, funny you mentioned that, I listen to SuicideSheep pretty much 24/7. But cheers man, I've listened to a few of Blackmill's tracks, I guess I'll have to go through some more. Thanks for the reply dude. Umm, also, if I did correctly, the track I linked is at 80BPM. Would I be able to make it 70BPPM then produce at 140? I've only read briefly on something to do with having the vocals at half your tempo, or something along the lines of that. Cause, stretching it to 140 would completely ruin the atmosphere of the whole track. And yeah mthrfnk, I've already told you, but you've got your atmospheres down - Out Of Time is a bomb haha.

On the same subject I'd like to know if anyone has any good VST plugs for this type of music. I've always been fascinated with it as well. I've got some decent orchestral strings, I'm looking for stuff like orchestral brass, maybe drums like these huge gong hits and stuff, choirs etc. Is there anything someone could recommend?

I've produced a few "dubstep" tracks at 70bpm, it really makes no difference imo. However I do feel it's easier to make things sound slower and more chilled at 70bpm. So yes I think if you wanted to, you could warp/chop an 80bpm track/sample down to 70bpm and remake it into a dubstep track. Alternatively, leave it at 80bpm, effectively slightly "faster dubstep" or drumstep, idk what people like to call it but who cares... if it sounds good at 80bpm leave it and build the drums round it.

I use Kontakt based libraries for this sort of stuff... I made a post a few days ago with some free libraries with strings, horns, drums, guitars etc.

These sound really nice with some good reverb on.

As for drums there's lots of packs out there with good cinematic drums, specifically search for Taiko packs - can give you a really powerful feeling (always remind me of the Dark Knight Rises title track).

Hmm, syncing this is really, really difficult. I mean, getting the starting section on time is so hard, cause it isn't the same as when the drums come in. It's easy to sync it up with the drums, cause it's a consistent beat, but I don't the start matches, it does something strange and I can't get it right.

Sample an orchestra piece that's 70BPM, resample twice as long (which could be time consuming), BPM - 140. Add bass in the key, remember, less is more... Make sure you don't ruin the original song's emotion, done.

Alternatively, create a bank of orchestra instruments you want to use, make sure you have all the voices in there, (bass, tenor, alto, soprano) work your ass off making something super OP and add bass and drums.
