DJ Shadow asked to stop spinning during his set in Miami

On Friday night, DJ Shadow was spinning live at Miami’s Mansion nightclub in support of his All Bases Covered tour when a funny thing happened: one of the promoters asked DJ Shadow to stop spinning. While Shadow was getting into Krampfhaft’s “Spit Thunder,” the crowd was either not into his set or the promoters were just so amped to get their resident back on to drop more Top 40-inspired tracks that one walked right up to the decks and apparently asked Shadow to stop:

Video of it on that page as well

Clubs/promoters like this really should understand who they are booking :u:

was this happening much before 'djing' became the 'in thing'?

because it seems to be happening fairly often these days.

I hope they didn't try to shortchange him on his pay.

Not too many collect 100% of the contract in advance though.

Apparently it's not the first time the club did the same thing, linked from the same article
Mansion has always catered to a very mainstream crowd with very commercial taste in music.

That's no secret. When the club isn't booking Top 40 hip-hop stars, it's only going after the most commercial names in EDM, like Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, and Afrojack.

But this past weekend, the South Beach nightclub also showed how far it'll go to maintain those commercial musical standards, allegedly kicking headliner Dennis Ferrer off the decks mid-set for not playing "commercial enough."

Though the Opium Group is unavailable for comment about the incident, Dennis Ferrer tweeted about it on Sunday, writing, "Haha @mansion_miami made me get off the decks!! said I don't play commercial enough!! WTF!!!!!"

If you're pulling anything over $2000 a show after travel and you aren't collecting fully in advance then you need a new agent.

I've never booked an Alist dj and not had to have the entirety paid at least 30 days in advance and had proof of ticket purchase available. I've booked some of my folks for much less than that and asked for the entirety up front and very rarely had issue.

I'm sure he got his cash

^ sounds like the agent didn't trust you. I've seen £2k+ DJs get paid in cash after the show and I've seen £2k+ DJs get paid in hash after the show too

ATL folks are saying he got booted off Opera Nightclub the night after as well

but Mansion -w-

doorcharge and $20 drinks to listen to Pitbull and Guetta, what a shitty excuse for a club

Seems like it is always either Miami or Las Vegas where I hear about this sort of thing happening.
