Changes to Production board you'd like to see in 2013

As per the title, end of the year seems a good time to do a state of the union style discussion, so...
- what's working?
- what's not working?
- what do we need more of?
- what do we need less of?
- what should be changed?
Etc
Etc
These are jump off points that you might want to consider, not hard & fast bullet points that
must be answered. Any suggestions welcome, but bear in mind sub forums are not going to happen

tbh its fine the way it is, its an internet forum with good info & i don't think it needs to consume more of the mod's time to fit people's needs since noone will be overall satisfied regardless of whatever change there is.

I admire the diplomatic response
This kind of feedback loop style discussion is ongoing, so if anything crops up feel free to let me know

Maybe pin some "official" threads, or in their own section?

We need less stupid threads made by people who didn't even bother to read the manuals, lurk the forum or take the experiment to their own hands. We need less cry babies who think they must be spoon fed by every member is this forum, man up people.
We need more threads like the growl / reese bass / how to make that dungeon thread / how to make that sound thread / how to make juke thread et coetera and those needs indexes and some moderation. (mainly to stop people from posting sound examples and be all like BRO DO U EVEN KNO HOW TO GROWL instead of giving actual feedback on how to achieve the sound and to be easier to navigate through the best tips).

It would be nice to see some subforums pop up, to segregate the decent threads like "How to do XXXX" that are now like 50 pages long, away from the beginner question posts which could have another subforum, leaving the remainder of threads and general chat in the main production forum.

Not sure how easy this is to address. Short of locking threads when they crop up, there will always be beginner style questions.
The only way to maybe avoid this is having a response preprepared for the more common generic questions and have that ready to copy & paste in when they get asked?

I'm wary of over modding every thread of this nature, but agree this could be addressed. If there are people who just use these threads as an excuse to spam shitty patches, then you can also use the Add Foe option on their account to stop you from seeing their posts.
The OP of these useful threads also has the ability to edit/update the first post to collate any particularly useful info.
I can also be engaged at any time if you feel a thread is getting out of hand, either by PM or using the report post button.

I know, but it would still be nice

can you expand on what you mean by this?
Something like this:
growl / reese bass / how to make that dungeon thread / how to make that sound thread / how to make juke thread et coetera
And Ableton Q&A and the Moneyshot thread pinned at the top, or in an "Official Production Threads" subsection where users cannot make new threads.

Moneyshot thread is already referenced in a pinned thread?

Limited functionality for new members with less than 10/20 posts or something. Dunno how doable this is, but if they have less than 20 or so posts, when they try to make a new thread, have a message pop-up saying that they can't and meanwhile, should read all the stickies/production bible (and sticky that too) or use the search feature instead.
Or just the limited functionality and have a sticky meta thread for new members conatining the production bible and moneyshot thread.

Whilst possible in theory, would require a major overhaul to site coding so not likely to happen. Great idea though

Meta thread is a good idea, could factor in a default response & lock approach for any beginner style questions that would redirect the user to the information already available and then lock the thread off.
The danger here is with alienating new users, however.

Is it really that hard? :0 I used to host a forum back in... 2002/2003, was a different forum service, but it allowed limited functionality per section. So if you wanna start threads in let's say, the music forum, you need at least 20 posts overal or somethign.
This forum software is more recent, so I think at the very least, it should be doable to have minimal access to production forum without affecting the whole site?
So if anything, limited accessibility should be doable. How likely it is that it will make new members read the stickies or just spam the 'how to make this sound' thread is a diff story.
I don't mind alienating users if it keeps the standard high. If you're serious about production, you'll read what's there.

I'll have an ask and see what can be done

We can't force anyone to do anything, new users will always ask questions without searching.
Another potential issue I've just thought of...if we put a post limit in place before new topics can be made what's to stop new users spamming threads to get their count up

Yep, thought of that too. Plebs gunna pleb! :'0 But if this board allows a customized message when people wanna start a thread, I think it could do a lot of good.

plus a sample basics thread. all these new hype kids edm rockstars fresh to death keep asking stupid questions about sampling afraid that someone will sue their one million dollars stadium filler banger with a pony sample when it's something natural to electronic music. Turning music into business = not kool

Do we already have a production dictionary? Where we explain what we mean by unison, 303, reese, sub, bus, hoover, etc?

I wrote a response but it got eaten by something :S
I don't agree with the post count limitations as it encourages spam most places I've seen it with people posting shite on other threads to get their count up to ask a question. That and the fact that post count =/= knowledge
