Kick is too loud and is distorting a little bit when it hits. Midrange from 54s onwards is a bit on the messy side, and is too loud in the mix and is obscuring the melody elements underneath it.

I'd take a serious look at the mixdown for this, it sounds like there are lots of elements that are very LOUD competing with each other.

Thanks for the feedback. I've constructed this tune to be, like many dubstep songs, very busy to keep the listener enthralled at all times of the song. That's the idealist way to look at it anyways The result of this is a competing high end and synths that can get in eachother's way. Obviously, audio fidelity is king when it comes to high end production, but I like to think of my music as something that is not perfect.

But yeah, that kick is too damn loud haha.

Busy is one thing, but cluttered is another. Same with the mixdown, having it a bit rough in places does indeed add character, but go too far down that road and you run the risk of it sounding amateurish.

youre right. and i am an amateur for that matter, but who says amateurs can't make a great song. any specific place where you can point out where the "clutter" is too much?

and with regards to the mix, i do not do any master limiting of any kind, so what you hear is me individually balancing synths and carving out the sound that i want. i do not want to be another dubstep artist that clips everything, slaps a limiter on the master channel, and comes out with a waveform looking like a sausage.

I'd say to my ears it's most noticeably from 55s onwards where there is a lot going on. Bear in mind this is a personal opinion, and it's not necessarily one that everyone will adhere to

No, I can hear that. My comments weren't directed at any mastering, they were purely with regards to the mixdown and the perceived balance of elements within.

I agree with Wub about the mixdown, but your composition and sampling is spot on for my tastes. You've certainly got talent and potential! I can absolutely see myself listening to this again.
