I may have the surf but not the soundtrack. Had enough of seeing picts and reading about DMZ/Forward, Croydon! and the aftermath of epic sub low nights! Time to jump on over and be there - September! DMZ/Forward and probably follow the lot to A-dam for the dep medi gig at the milkveg and get lost in the coffee house cultcha in that fair city....so yea London, a few nights to stuff alot on music and pints down me , can anyone recommend a reasonably priced (yea in the worlds most expensive city) place to stay??? something with a funky relaxed charm, you know, character, that would be great. If not a specific place, where Dear Londoners, would you say is a good neighborhood/district to stay in---priorities of course being strong coffee, good curries, a fair pint, fat records shops, and the dance!

Seriously though.....

I recommend you stay in central london, then all your requirements would be nearby.But it is expensive.

Brixton is also a good and fairly central option. Fairly good choice of pubs, bars and food places. And you'll be mad close to DMZ and a subway ride away from FWD>>, platform 1 e.t.c.

P.S. Good curries can be found almost anywhere (with luck) the same goes for bad curries (so check out first) Pints, again you can get a good(ish) pint on any road. Record shops are mainly best found in central areas. i.e. black market records - d'arblay street W1 etc.

I think you would be better off staying somewhere in Central/East london.

Even though Croydon is the mecca of Dubstep, the only things it really has to offer is Plan B and DMZ and both are in Brixton which aint even Croydon but Lambeth even though Croydon is home to people like Cyrus, Kromestar, Skream and Hijack - im not sure they would welcome strangers into their homes with open arms .

If you stay at East London area you can get the tube to pretty much anywhere and not only that its close by to Platform 1 and FWD and a few other places, so you shouldnt have far to stagger home.

Who needs good food when you got KFC's big daddy meal and a bunch of crusty news agents the size of ya nans livin room selling tins of wife beater 24 hours a day.

I cant actually recommend anywhere to stay but take the risk and find somewhere when you land, its part of the adventure

yea New York Times did a recent piece on eastend trendies of the moment (shoreditch/hoxten square) home of the faux mohawk they say, ok, but it sounds like its got some clubs and shops and eats and somewhat cheaper and grittier than the goldplated westside. trying to keep it real here u know.

A pal of mine came from NYC to live here a while back and stayed somewhere in Bethnal Green when he landed.

Found the spot and booked it online before he came ( not sure that's a great idea but he was lucky )

Bear in mind that E.London can be a bit bleak/hardcore at times

And hoxton itself is pretty dear to stay at

Bethnal Green is a good spot to stay, good transport, cheap, and as Ill says HARDCORE. You know the score.

Honestly though, East London is probably your best bet, easy to get everywhere and plenty going on. No more bleak than anywhere else in London really, unless you fall asleep on the night bus....

I know very little so this is in a way a request for verification...

My ghost cabbie who drove me back to S.Ken (don't stay there) from FWD said that on my next trip I should stay in a bed and breakfast in East London - reasonable prices.

But the thought of waking to grannies muffins and photo albums of past guests and false smiles and niceties scares me a bit.

Anyone have input on this area and these places to stay?

and as ozeb can also tell you, the knightsbridge area in central london is very nice but would reccomend against staying there as food and damn near everything else is stupid expensive.

try looking on hostel websites as they should have all the cheapest places to stay plus better than just getting a hotel if your on your own. hostelworld.com is what i used when i was travelling, has recomendations from people aswell. but yh id say be up in central/east somewhere. hackney/shoreditch area.

Getting a cab over Waterloo Bridge when you're off your chops is always a great experience though!

Hostel here is in bloomsbury, central london nr. Euston/Kings X, never been but good recommendations, think it's full of Ozzies though.
