(assuming it was a "total control" scenario and didnt have to deal with other branches) defense budget gets halved, all money saved gets diverted into infrastructure and balancing the deficit.
the out of work soldiers get first pick of which social infrastructure projects they want to work on first considering their jobs are the ones getting eliminated.

I would assign a bunch of smart guys to figure out best ways to make criminal punishment more strict on rape and violent crimes. I would also investigate corruption in the construction and business fields.

I would change the law where mp's are not allowed to wear armour in parliament.At least pm's questions would be a lot more interesting.

Furthermore, I would institute a bunch science prizes in a variety of fields, and dump money into the National Science Foundation, as well as NASA.
Gotta get on that innovation grind again, fellow Americans.
Don't know how I'd start retooling the education system, but getting kids stoked about math would be one of my goals as well.

Probs something I was discussing earlier enforcing anonymity to ALL people involved in sex crime cases until a verdict is reached, rather than just the victim.

presuming I had my colleagues support & had canvassed it as an election issue:
provide more community housing in areas of potential employment growth,
partly paid for by a land tax that discourages excessive landholdings for non-agricultural use
and tax disincentives to building resource-wasteful McMansions
then I'd start working on minimizing corruption & nepotism

End all current American wars, including drug war. Free half of all federal prisoners (charged with drug crimes).
With proceeds from ending of all wars, declare war on ignorance, our truly final war, end factory system in school (would pretty much fix all other problems).

Make the UK a truly participatory democracy, unlike the plebian version it is now.
Conduct all foreign policy co-operatively and in a non-aggresive manner.
Make the education system encourage thinking and reflection other than just memorisation. End government control assessment and instate an independent body to remove the current bias and dumbing-down.
Reform drug policy to reflect actual harm based on evidence.
Make the Queen do something for the public or dissolve the monarchy because it`s generally useless and an obstacle to true democracy. Even better, have a referendum on it.
Have a referendum on EU membership.
Use EU membership to force reform in the whole system and, if the result of the referendum is to withdraw, help them sort their shit out anyway.
Test all medical treatments independently to ensure efficacy and cost-effectiveness.
Observe international law that is fair for everyone and, if it isn`t, change it so it is.
End support for malevolent states and leave countries alone if they don`t want any intervention.
Encourage the dissolution of the UN security council.
Invest in environmentally-friendly policies and technology for upkeep of the planet for future generations.
Investigate tax loopholes and create a system where tax is fairer for everyone. Make it worth paying in return.
Make eradicating poverty a national success indicator and not just based on income levels, relative to costs of living etc.
Constantly engage the public in an open and truthful manner. Give the full facts at all times.
