bass comes in at 1:45

I'm trying flex my sound design chops and I've been trying to recreate this bass from Seven Lions. I know there is sme heavy dose of distortion but its so crunchy and clear. There sounds like some sort of a growl but I can't quite get it. Could anyone help shed some light on this.

thanks so much!

main layer is a FM esque vowel bass, generic growl sound, panned to the right there's a modern talking massive mid range.

Fuck me that song is cheesy.

Im actually a big fan of seven lions but this track is their worst in my opinion. It feels bland anf boring in terms of bass engineering

by FM vowel bass do you mean like some saws with the talking effect on it? I gave it a try with modern talking and I am getting closer. thank you. I'm shocked you think its boring. Everything he does IMHO is amazing production wise. This track and the remix he did for Paul Van Dyk are my two favorites actually lol. to each there own

Production wise, everything sounds crystal clear of course, but the sound design is a bit limited and I feel that it lacks depth. Differents tastes I guess. As for the FM vowel bass, search through the Growl Bass Thread, it's a pretty easy sound that is everywhere in that thread, it sounds just like that. Wish I could be more helpful, but I'm not that good in FM synthesis. Seamless tutorials on youtube go really deep into the design of this particular sound too.
