I've recorded precusion, and things like claps and finger clicks, and wood stick hits. I've got two tunes on the go at the moment, one with clarinet, the other with pungi (which is a double reed woodwind instrument from india) and also some djembe. Got some triphop with acoustic guitar too, thinking about finding and MC and making it hiphop though.

I use instruments, but i tend to filter/pitch shift/process beyond recognition. I don't think it makes a difference whether you're producing or programming though, it's still creative.

I've recorded my mate on the drums at college, but it's quite hard to get a good sound sometimes. Quite a bit of skill is required, and I like 'em dirty, so I usually just sample lo fi stuff or off vinyl.

yeah and sometimes the point of sampling is to get the characteristics of the recording... plus if you are sampling a hit, well it doesnt matter if its compressed... it'd be quite hard to duplicate the sound of an old funk recording... particular drums, mics, mic and mixing techniques, not to mention the player

^^ True... If I had the space and time (not to mention the equipment) I'd probably record more cos you can get some really interesting sounds if you experiment. Dunno if anyones checked out Amon Tobins latest album but I think he recorded drums underwater and with peas in the snare drum to make it rattle, stuff like that. His Splinter Cell soundtrack's another great example of live instruments being used in electronic music.

Played guitar for years.. but yet to have a go at introducing it into my productions.
I'm buying a new soundcard this week, probably the audiophile 2496(?i think thats it) and i'm just wondering whats the best way to plug in the guitar. More specifically which input would i use on the card.
I'd run my guitar thru my amp then line out into the card, is a DI box in need, or directly into some kind of input thats on the card. How do you do it??? maybe westernsynthetics you could help us out with this one bruv?
