When doing a remix do you leave the tracks from the original at 0dB or do you drop them lower to fit the dynamic range of your remix? For instance,

My drums, bass and fx currently are about -9dB so that when I mix/master they have enough room to really be pushed. But if I drop the original to the same level as my own tracks it 'sounds good' but I'm afraid that I'll squash the original tracks and lose dynamics by essentially putting it through another mastering chain.

I've thought about just exporting the cutup original to a single wave file and bouncing it out before I process the remix and then bring it back in after.

How do you all go about doing it?

Drop em down so you can change levels without clipping and don't over limit/compress when mastering. Sorted

It's a remix, you can pretty much do whatever the fuck you want, don't feel obliged to follow any kind of prerequisites or standards, even when it comes to mixing. Unless it's stupid shit like highpassing your whole mix at 1000hz, don't do that.
