soft synth suggestion

i think almost any va-synth will do, you don't even need to spend money on one of the popular ones like massive etc.
just google "virtual analog vst freeware" or something like that
also check amvst.com for Analog Warfare

I stand by synths like NI Massive and Absynth.. great to explore and learn because you can make such an array of sounds with them....
But lots of the time you can make a nice sound out of a simple freeware synth which are a lot more user friendly... You can pull a sine wave sub out of basically any synth with a down tuned osc and a LP filter...
NW Bass is a good little simple free bass synthesizer so google that and give it a try
