Title thats suggests I've made sounds, but kept the rulebook

--Edited the title from 'throwing away the rulebook' of whatever it was; some people got their panties in a twist lol (Jokes guys, don't get offended) --

I've decided, since I haven't uploaded any songs in like a year I'd just make something. Something kept recurring in people's comments from my earlier stuff, basically talking about the moods of my tunes. Certain emotions that don't yet have a name. Feelings and ambiance that they'd never felt before.

The reason I haven't brought out anything new recently is because I forgot what made me start producing in the first place. That was to experiment with feeling. Experiment with emotion. Experiment with character. I'd lost touch with what drove me to produce in the first place.

And so I threw away the rulebook. I sat down, made a track that had no real structure, key or relation to any music I've listened to. Sure, it's 140bpm, it has a cool sounding synth. But that synth didn't play a melody, it was a mood synth. The drums didn't make sense. There were no verses, chorus's or drops. Any rhythm in the track wasn't constant. I experimented.

This is that track:

Soundcloud

Now the reason I am posting it here is because I feel like it has some cool elements. Elements which you guys are very welcome to have and mess around with; to remix. Have a listen to the tune and let me know if there are any parts you'd want to use in a remix. Any style of remix.

As you have noticed, there are very few elements, most of the work that went into this was automation of two different effects; reverb and delay. There is no real structure. Lots of the synthwork is out of time, there is no sub bass. There are no intricate drum patterns. I made this as if I had forgotten about everything I have learnt about any genre of music altogether, but I'd love to see what people could make of it.

TL;DR: Remix this experimental piece into something musical, give me credit when you upload it, share in this thread and I may upload my favorites to my own soundcloud, giving credit where credit is due. Let me know what stems you want, and what condition you want them in (eg wet synth with the filter automation, Dry synth with filter automation, sound fx used whatever)

Would love to hear what you guys can do to it!

I think you may have just invented a new style of music. Haha

Anyways, i like the idea of what youre doing. Instead of making shit that all sounds the same, you just doing whatever.

the whole world of avant garde composition and free improvisational performance have been blown away by your tearing up of the rule book

No offense so please don't take this as a personal attack, but this honestly doesn't sound like you threw away the rulebook. Sounds like you heard some of woulg's stuff and wanted to do the same thing.

Yeah I dunno, neat track but it's nothing that hasn't been done before. Definitely nothing that warrants the whole "look how abstract and edgy I am" tone of your post. If anything it just sounds like an amateur IDM producer without a subwoofer trying to make dungeon. Not trying to shoot you down, just like, do your thing and let the music talk for itself, else you'll risk coming across as some pretentious pseudo-intellectual type :P

First off I Didn't mean to come across as pretentious at all. This post wasn't meant to be brag about my new track, but don't worry I am not one to be easily offended ;) Also, woulg is not somebody I've ever heard of :P but I will be sure to check some of his/her/their stuff out.

I knew this was nothing ground breaking when I posted it, the thread isn't so much about the track, rather more about making tracks and the processes we get stuck in that I'm sure we are all guilty of at least sometimes. We (obviously I can't speak for everyone, but this more than likely applies to most) tend to get stuck in a routine when it comes to producing. Using the same techniques and stuff constantly.

The point of my OP was really just me thinking out loud I suppose. I am not the holy father holding my holy grail for all to see and I know that :P

I tend to get a little over excited sometimes.

Still, the offer stands, If anyone wants some of the stems they are more than welcome to them.

Meh, i tend to talk too much and always end up coming across as a pretentious twat lol. Was just wondering if would be interested in turning it into something else. Might as well just do a VIP with a bit more rhythm and bass and a new synth or two haha

Cheers for the feedback though. Gonna nom that shit up.

this... plus, there is no rulebook to tear up. Composition (in all forms) has been a free-for-all for 100 years. There is no such thing as "rule-breaking" anymore. Just do your thing.

I had a few milligrams of opiates and benzos floating around my bloodstream at the time of writing this track and the post. I have done nothing more than made shitty dungeon and for that I apologise. Fucking serotonin.

I like it, at least it's creative and not that formulaic.

Very old school dub style man... I dig it...Also, I didn't find your post pretentious...I took you to mean you'd thrown away *your* rulebook...the one we all build up as we learn more about music theory and production techniques. So now worries as far as I'm concerned. There is always this problem with the word experiment and experimental in art...many times people mean that they are experimenting within the context of their own creative experience, rather in the context of the entire medium.

If anyone else is up for a remix project, stems are here: http://www.mediafire.com/?xz0tmj4u08uhuyy

Let me know what you come up with. 3 files, 320 .mp3s. Drums (meh), synths(wet) and synths(dry).

I have no recollection of when I made the synth, but if anyone wants me to look it up i can do and upload it too, but It was resampled quite a few times.
